89% of Americans want English for our national language, and a prerequisite for citizenship.
However.....our govt seems to miss that, for some reason.

Having to press one to continue in English is one of my biggest pet peeves. Makes me want to break my phone and scream. :gaah
Good video by the way.
Also, there's a group in Bama who is suing the state for having our drivers' license test in the following languages:
American sign language
Arabic
Chinese
English
Farsi
French
German
Greek
Japanese
Korean
Russian
Spanish
Thai
Vietnamese
Bama voters passed a Constitutional Amendment by the voters that says "English is the official language of the state of Alabama". The Amendment also states that the AL Legislature shall enforce the Amendment and by appropriate legislation and that they shall make no law which diminishes or ignores the role of English as the common language of the state of Alabama.
So, once that passed the tests were given strictly in English until one Spanish speaking resident sued. So the test was put back in the other languages.
Now, a group of five citizens represented by the Southeast Legal Foundation sued to have the other languages removed because it violated the English as official language amendment. The first Circuit Judge ruled against them without hearing any evidence and/or a trial. They appealed and argued before the Alabama Supreme Court. The only Democrat on the Supreme Court is the Chief Justice. The rest are Republicans.
I think it's nuts that they changed them based on one woman who sued and ultimately lost. This was Alexander vs. Sandavol. Sandavol was a Mexican legal immigrant who couldn't pass the English only drivers' license test. The US Supreme Court ruled in Bama's favor paving the way to putting the test back in English only as per the Amendment. However, the Democrat administration under Don Siegelman (who's about to be sentenced in federal court for being convicted of corruption in office) refused to do so.
No one has gotten around to doing anything about it until these five people sued the state.
I'd think the Alabama Supreme Court would rule in their favor since the SCOTUS already did. I know if they don't then there are some Republicans who are going to get some nasty calls, letters and such and rightly so.
