Why did God say “I am, that I am” to Moses? Why was it not sufficient for God to say “I am”? Ex 3:14

I believe God was speaking of his eternality. God is. Try getting your mind around that - its impossible, but fun to think about.

God's amazing!

In Hebrew, the context is that G-d made it clear when Moses asked, "Who do tell the people You are?" that "I am all that anyone will ever need and any circumstance for anything for all time."

G-d covered it all at that point in time.

The Hebrew people would understand this as the One and Only, as opposed to all the other idols that the world (and Egypt) needed to "hopefully" sustain them.

Hi All :)

I agree, I think God is saying that He does not need a name, because He is the one and only God, who is eternal and never changes. To me this is one of the most powerful statements that God makes in His word, "I Am that I Am". It always send goose bumbs to me lol. Nobody else could make that statement but God. He does not need a name, He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and End of all things. He is the Lord, the God of all flesh, and the One who holds everything together. He is Jesus, name above all names. Praise God, for He is the only One worthy of praise.

Love,

Bruce
