An installed kitchen runs from a few thousand to many $$$$. $15,000 to $25,000 is not too far out of line for a small quality job. DIYrs can save alot but Big Box stores generally have low-mid quality cabinets.
It will also depend on appliances - new ones?
Fancier hardware, stone, composits, glass work, tile work.
Also the builder may have a high margin(profit $)
If you have a couple specifics I can get a better number for you.
Size in feet. Appliances. Special features. If you are in PA, PM me.

I suggest you measure the linear feet that your current cabinets take up then visit a hardware store and get a quote just for the product itself (find something you like... prices vary signifcantly). Then you can decide from there whether or not you want to proceed with getting a quote from a carpenter to do the job.

Just use your feminine persuasive ways to convince your husband. Haven't you perfected this yet? :) My wife sure knows how to get what she wants. :lol2

Home Depot has some nice raw cabinets in a light wood that you can stain yourself, or use teak oil if you want to keep them really light. We did this in our other house. My husband put them in, but he is handy. The cost was minimal (I'm sorry, I don't remember exact cost!)

If the cabinets are in good enough condition you might do well to simply buy new (and fancy) doors and trims from one of the large DIY stores.
If you can do this you could probably get all you need for less than a couple hundred dollars.
Most cabinets and doors are a regular size.
Many folk in the UK do this.
