Poll amony people here..do you give your kids flouride? We have well water and I have a one year old. We mostly drink filtered (reverse osmosis water) but I am torn if I should give baby flouride tabs or not. My other two had them but i hear so much bad about flouride, yet I dont want her to have rotten teeth! I am brushing her teeth with xylitol for now. Help tell me if anyone here drank unflouridated water and did not take flouride yet still had okay teeth? What about your kids?

There's an elementary school near San Francisco, where my ex-sister in laws children go...they administor a flouride tablet to the kids daily in the morning "because the water lacks the required daily amt". I told her over my dead body would a school give anything to my children and she didn't have a problem with it. :doh

Why is a toxic metal by-product in our drinking water to begin with???

So none of your children had it in their water or supplements? How are their teeth?

We lived in the country and "didn't have enough flouride" in our water either, we were told we should by flouridated water or take flouride suppliments. Flouride is found NOT to be protecting teeth, but causing other problems. When you have a physical by your physician, have them check the levels in their blood of Vit D, Magnesium, Calcium. It is calcium that is needed, and magnesium to allow the body to absorb it. A child who plays outside 15 min a day will get the Vit D they need and milk and milk products will provide the calcium needed. Flouride is not healthy and has proven to be an unsafe risk to health.

Some believe that fluoride impairs brain function and makes people more docile. I think that's a real possibility. You can find many websites about this subject on the internet.
I think that good diet, brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups are all that is needed for people to have healthy teeth. From what I understand fluoride protects teeth from decay if it is put directly on the teeth. However, when it's in drinking water it affects the entire body.

We live in the country too, and do not have flouridated water. I do not give my children supplements or drops. I do have our dentist give the flouride rinse at our semi annual (or every three year) checks. So far, in my four children, we have had ZERO cavities:yeah My oldest is 19 and no cavities yet.
However....we do eat a strick diet of whole foods, whole grains, and raw (or lactofermented) dairy products..NO SODA, very little candy- only for special occasions, and little sugar. They are average brushers (if that):thinking. Also, three rough and tumble boys growing up on the farm have had no bone fractures either!! I attribute this mostly to raw milk (more absorbable) and NO pop! I think that the acid in soda has a terible effect on teeth and the carbonation saps calcium from growing bones.
I think that tooth health can be improved more by improving and taking harmful things out of our diets than by adding one more questionable thing..flouride.

This is a decision that should be made between parents and the pediatrician. For the state, through the schools, to implement it, is wrong! I would object loudly and keep my children from participating, no matter what measures I would have to take!

Okay... I don't like that a school would take it upon themselves to add flouride to a child's diet and not notify the parents.
Ketsialove -- growing up, we had well water. I did not have flouride supplements. I am the only one in the family that has strong, healthy teeth at 35. My sister is 30 & just got her top plate dentures. She goes next week for her bottoms. I used to envy her for her teeth because they were so white and straight. But they were rotten on the inside. Mine are crooked & not white at all. But, my first & only cavity came after I was pregnant with my first child. Both of my parents had dentures before the age of 25. But, they both smoked their entire lives.
