FIVE more China-made dairy products sold here have tested positive for the toxic chemical melamine, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) announced last night.
The results bring to eight the number of items the AVA has found tainted in a widening contamination scandal that extends to at least three other countries and has led to wholesale bans on Chinese dairy.

The latest additions to the Singapore list are two flavours of Dutch Lady bottled sterilised milk; Silang House of Steamed Potato's potato crackers; and two flavours of Xu Fu Ji's puffed rice rolls. They join Dutch Lady strawberry- flavoured sterilised milk, a Yili yogurt-flavoured ice bar, and White Rabbit Creamy Candy.
But officials said that the concentration of the chemical, used mainly in plastics, was still well below toxic levels.

Three more Chinese brands of chicken's eggs have been found to contain high levels of the chemical melamine.
Tests in Hong Kong first revealed dangerously high levels of the substance in eggs from a mainland supplier earlier this week.
Officials were reportedly aware of the contamination a month earlier.

Testing of animal feed, chicken meat and eggs will also be introduced.

I'm not sure they know exactly what 'toxic levels' are.

I don't think anyone should be injesting melamine in any quantity. It's used in plastics! Do you want to eat plastic?

Here's a list of countries and product names that are being pulled from the shelves. Most of it seems to be obviously from China with the type of writing on the containers, etc. However, Nestle and Swiss tested positive for this stuff.....since it seems to be the powdered form perhaps it would be best to pass on hot chocolate this winter season. I'm curious though if their other products might have some of that stuff. It seems to be pretty hard to find a list of all that's been pulled.
