:pray Praying for everyone who is in the process of quitting. I wanted to share my quit story.
When we lost my MIL to a heart attack back in October of 2009, it frightened my husband. He decided, after decades of smoking, that he was going to quit cold turkey on New Year's Day 2010. He said he didn't expect me to quit with him, but he hoped I'd support his decision. Well, I figured the best way to support it would be to quit also. And I did, for three months. I started back Easter weekend. My husband did as well, but he found that he had developed an intolerance to nicotine. It made him feel really sick and achy, so he was able to only smoke a few cigarettes and go right back to his quit. So, we didn't count his little slip-up and he's been smoke-free for nearly a year and a half.
I continued to smoke, but hated the way it made me feel. When my sister found out she was pregnant in September she quit smoking and tried using an electronic cigarette with the zero nicotine cartridges. She said it helped her get past the rough times, so I looked into it. Since I knew from quitting in the past that I could get through the few days of nicotine withdrawal, but it was the actual habit of the act of smoking that I'd missed, I figured using a nicotine-free liquid and an e-cig would help. My kit arrived the week of Thanksgiving and I never smoked a cigarette again.
Back in February I got the flu and didn't use my e-cig at all during that time. After that it got to where my uses were few and far between and I've actually gone weeks not having to use the e-cig as my crutch. :)
ETA: I wanted to add that I ordered my dad a kit for Christmas last year and he's been smoke-free since Christmas day! My cousin also quit using one. My grandfather has emphysema. Please pray for him. His doctor prescribed Chantix and he was smoking while taking the medication, but he never quit smoking. He just kept taking the pills and smoking two packs a day. He has expressed interest in the e-cigs, and I gave him a business card for the site I ordered my kit from. We're praying this will work for him.

:yeahAs of June 24, 2011, I have been smoke-free 3 years!!!!!! Thank you, Jesus!!!:yeahThe best advice I have to those just starting out is to do what I did. Every time I wanted to smoke, I prayed. Sometimes they were long prayers, sometimes they were quick, desperate ones. He heard and answered them all. During each prayer I said, "Lord, don't let me smoke today, because you know I am planning to." and each time He kept me from smoking!!! Good luck, everyone, and know I am praying for your victory over this horrible addiction right now!:hug to each of you!
