I lost my best friend that I knew in Jr. High & High School in 1998 at at the age of 45. My mom has COPD, and has breathing problems. Praise God whom the son sets free is free indeed. I haven't visited this BBS very often in recent years but I remember when this thread was started. I was entrenched in my tobacco addiction and wondered if I would ever succeed in quitting.

I prayed to God and told him there were certain things that would have me smoking in a heartbeat and we both knew it. I asked him if I prayed at every crave, thought, or dream of a cigarette, if he would help.

I finally took the plunge when my income was sharply reduced. At first I bought nicotine gum figuring I would smoke some and hopefully chew gum the rest of the time. After a few days into this, I started praying to God.

"Dear Father in Heaven, I won't pick up that first cigarette, please do the rest. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen."

In demonstrating that I would do my part, God backed it up with his part. The things that would get me to smoke did not happen at all. No sore throat, no burning in my chest, and the obsession and crave were instantly stopped.

Over time, I've learned that God truly cares for me and I came to trust that. To this day, I say that prayer with every thought, desire, or dream of a cigarette. I started smoking when I was 12. Today, I'm 54 and I have 2 years and a month without a cigarette.


Our God is awesome.
