The first thing God did after creating Adam was to Breath on him and give him the breath of life.

Then a few thousand years later you Find Jesus Doing the same exact thing to the apostles after his resurrection .
He breathed on them and said receive ye the holy spirit.
Their is some connection with our breath Box (lungs) and the breath of life.
As well as the spirit life that is in us by the holy spirit.

Now i'm not saying anyone who smokes is not saved.
I have been a smoker for a long time and i only am making another effort to quite recently.

I just thought i would put this up because it just may be the thing that could motivate some of you...and i thought it was interesting...good Luck

I'll be joining in on this thread with you all..
I bought a two week supply of patches but I haven't picked a date yet.
I will do that soon though.

I have quit before for almost a year... a stressful situation happened in my life and that "just one cigarette" moment did it in for me. So I know this time to not listen to myself when I say that.

What I learned in my quit before was how, like many of you here say, it's a personal idol. You don't realize until you quit how your whole day was centered around a cigarette. It really controls your life... and that's why it's an addiction.

After two weeks of being smoke free I realized that I smelled...
And I could tell if someone was smoking in a parking lot of walmart because I could smell that too!

What helped me more than anything was to replace a bad thing with a good thing in place of it. Instead of smoking I'd do something good for myself, like wash my face, do my nails....etc. And in the evening I'd relax to a nice smelling candle and enjoy the scent as my personal reward to myself.

Anyhoo... I'm planning on my stop date to be within a week.. so...

Candi,

That's what happend to me 4 years ago. But in my case, I got drunk and wanted "just one" at the spur of the moment. The next morning, I went and got another pack.......4 years later, I just quit again.

2 days, 7 hours in now. I'm witnessing the power of Jesus at this time. He is soothing my nicotine withdrawals to the point that it's VERY tolerable. Thank you all so much for the prayers you've added, he is listening!! I remember last time I tried quiting without the Lord, I had severe withdrawal that lasted 3 weeks. I know this is it for me, I'll never subject myself to another cigarette ever again. Candi, I will pray for you! :)

Candi when I first quit was a week, then it was 4 months 1 year later, then 1 year a year after that. Here comes the really cool part all of you ( PRAISE THE LORD!!! ) when I first quit it was for 1 week, but what happened was I started back up when hurricane Hugo hit SC on 22 Sept. 1989. I spent that whole night topside on the deck of the nuclear sub in drydock outside all night and that's when I started back up. Well the last time I quit I wasn't giving it any thought but God picked up ( and I quit ) on the same date ( and I never gave thought about the day until later ) where I left off from last time! I started on Sept. 22nd and quit for the final time ( and I make NO BOAST OF MY OWN STRENGTH HERE BUT BY GOD'S GRACE I WILL!!! ) on Sept. 22nd of 1998. I also believe this is God's way of showing me I will never smoke again because of His power to help me resist temptation. AMEN!!!!

I'm sort of thinking of quitting, but I don't WANT to. I figure what's the use? Been smoking for 30 years now, probably already damaged my lungs beyond repair. I don't know if I can do it though. I'm going thru a very stressful situation right now. But anyway, there's a tiny seed planted in my heart. I just found out that if I do decide to try to quit, I have a whole support system right here! How coool is that? :ghug

Hello fellow quitters! I haven't visited in a while so I wanted to check in. I see a lot of progress! Congratulations to all of you and thank you Lord for strength and endurance. I haven't smoked in 8 months.
To those struggling, it helped me to go through and read all the posts in this thread. Also, put the cigs up somewhere and just test yourself on how long you can go without one. With the Lords help, I suprised myself.

I struggled with wanting or not wanting to quit. Finally, with Gods help, the decision was made. God gave me the wanna. You can do it, you must rely totally on God! Not so easy for us independent folks. . . . . but it can be done in the power of Jesus!

Yes, this thread is what helped me to finally decide, too. This thread has been a real blessing.
