I'm sort of thinking of quitting, but I don't WANT to. I figure what's the use? Been smoking for 30 years now, probably already damaged my lungs beyond repair. I don't know if I can do it though. I'm going thru a very stressful situation right now. But anyway, there's a tiny seed planted in my heart. I just found out that if I do decide to try to quit, I have a whole support system right here! How coool is that? :ghug

I smoked for 30 years also, but it's almost like I never smoked. You just leave those worries up to the Great Healer!:hug:preach

You folks all hang in there! God can and will give you the strength to quit. Here's what worked for me -

Step 1 - Pray - Resolved to quit.
Step 2 - Pray - Stopped buying cartons - bought only a pack at at time - major hassle factor played a huge role.
Step 3 - Pray - Bought the patches and put the box in the bathroom - I knew my time was short. I would be quitting soon.
Step 4 - Pray - Got down to two cigarettes on a Sunday night - wasn't about to go out and buy more that evening. Prayed and went to bed.
Step 5 - Pray - Got up the next morning and smoked those last two cigarettes within 30 minutes. Right after putting out the last one I put the patch on my left arm (it takes about 30 minutes for the nicotine to soak through your skin) -Soon I felt the nicotine rush and knew the patch was working.
Step 6 - Pray - 6 days (and 7 patches) later I took off the patch I had on because it was itching something fierce and have been smoke free and patch free to this day. It's been about 6 months. I still get cravings - they turn me to prayer. Cravings then go away. God is great.
Step 7 - Continue to pray. The Holy Spirit does not like dwelling in smoky temples (our bodies).
Step 8 - Pray for one another.

Come Lord Jesus and remove us forever from these temptations of the flesh!
Come Lord Jesus and remove us from the source of so much distress!
Come Lord Jesus and please be quick - this fallen earth has made me sick!

P.S. - I smoked for 36 years. God gave me the strength to quit. He will give the same to anyone who asks and is sincere about quitting. It does not matter how long you've been a smoker or how much damage you may have done to your lungs. If you really want to quit - Pray - God will answer.
