I am new to this board but I wanted to share my smoking experience. I am 51 years old and I smoked since I was about 16. I had tried to quit several times over the years but never succeeded. Finally, I asked my pastor to pray for me. Wow! What a prayer! That was a year ago. After that I used the patch to quit but it only lasted a few months. The way I see it, God had cured me of the addiction but I wasn't willing to let go. Finally a year later I decided I needed to trust that God had freed me from the nasty habit. I decided to quit smoking and start trusting that God had already handled it for me. I didn't use the patch or anything. I have now been smoke free for 8 months and 5 days. I can honestly say that I haven't had the urge to smoke since. In fact, the thought of smoking now makes me ill. The taste and the thought of all that junk going into my lungs......YUK!! I will pray for everyone on this board and I know that God can conquer this for you. You just need to trust that he will. It took me a long, long time to really believe that but I am forever grateful to Him.

Started smoking while in high school, I tried for the last 24 years to stop. Never could, oh I'd quit for a few days and allways go back to them cancer sticks. One day in early July 07 I put them down for good and haven't picked one up since. I know without a shadow of doubt if hadn't given my life back to the Lord 4 years I couldn't have accomplished it on my own. I would also like to say my mother quit a couple months before I did after 40 years of smoking. I'm so proud of her!!!!!
