Good Job Guys. Keep Going. Kliska - gonna try the Easter Song /Herring/Green? (hear the bells ringing...)

Anyone work on drop D tuning - songs? 6th [E] dropped down to D.

Some beautiful tones, And I know Leo Kottke worked some songs out in this tuning.

Just curious, how did you learn the strings: Edgar ate dynamite, good bye Edgar?

I learned it Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie. Either way it's funny and it helped me easily remember the strings.

Oooooh, Easter Song! I did that my first Easter after learning how to play (seven months in or so). One of the ones I found the most difficult, at least that year. I pulled it off, but I had to transpose it for easier playing and singing, and also still had to slow it down some, and even with all that it took extra practice.

I had my instructor pick a song for me, one that he could modify to both teach me something new, and make sure I'd be ready. He's teaching me the good ol' standby, What a Friend We Have in Jesus. It's his favorite hymn, so that's really neat. I'm accompanying the piano, and he's adding in a bunch of hammer-on's and pull-off's for me to play in the chords...and I'm playing it on my acoustic, so my fingers are complaining even as I type.

The way I'm playing it, I'm tuned a full step down, and I love the deep sound of the chords and notes. I'm also learning a song that is actually drop C tuning (tune down a full step and 6th string is dropped to C), and have played several drop D songs too.

I learned the strings: Eat All Day Get Big Easy :heh

Are you learing the PIMA finger picking?

I think Brad Paisley's "What a Friend" is picked with that method.

Not this time around. He considered it, but the way my instructor picks it, thought it might overwhelm me a bit at this point (he knows me too well :madgrin); also, since I'm accompanying and not leading, the strumming will be heard better, and I'll be backing up me mum.

I've learned one simple song using PIMA; Jack Johnson's "We're Gonna Be Friends."

What is PIMA? :scratch

Basically it just denotes your Thumb (P), index(I), middle(M), and ring(A) finger of your strumming hand. It is a type of finger picking that only (usually) utilizes those fingers and leaves your pinkie out. I've not seen it notated like this, because my instructor doesn't tab it out with the PIMA label. You may see a tab with the initial over the note you should be picking; it just shows you which finger to use to pick each note.

I'm going to get an acoustic-electric soon, anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking to move up from my purely acoustic beginner-level Yamaha.

How's everything going? Every now and again I'll do something on one of my guitars that I never dreamed I'd actually be able to do...hit a certain chord quick and clean, or hit the right tone on a bend, etc... and it definitely keeps me motivated, though I have sooooo much more to learn, and sooooo much more practicing to do, it can still feel overwhelming at times, though very much fun.

We used to have an acoustic-electric but we just gave it to our daughter. DH and I bought it years ago when he was thinking of learning the guitar. It was an "Art & Lutherie" that was very similar to this one. (http://www.artandlutherieguitars.com/dreadcedarantbst.html) It had a BEAUTIFUL sound to it, but DH's fingers were too chubby and mine too short to reach around the neck. This guitar had an equalizer on the top side also.

I've been working on "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" by the Hollies. Sounds easy when you listen to it, but it's another story to learn it. I'm plugging along though. It suprises me when I do the hammer-ons and they actually sound like the song. :lol2

Pretty guitar! I need to go to a big guitar store and just try a bunch of different ones...but that means driving about 2 hours to get there.

Yes, it often surprises me when everything lines up and I sound halfway decent on a song. :heh I still pick things up quicker on the acoustic than I do on the electric, but the electric is coming along.
