Just checkin' in. How's everyone doing?
My instructor is teaching me Dust in the Wind, which uses the same base chords in the intro (C's and A's) and how to finger pick. I've actually been able to play it, slowly of course, but I'm so excited. This instructor is much better suited for my learning style. Yay!
He's going to start me on Hotel California this Friday, since that's the song he's working with my hubby on with his bass. That way we can practice together. I'm not crazy about that song, but I think it will be fun to practice with DH.
It seems like all the theory stuff that he was teaching me a few weeks ago are starting to make more sense to me now that he's teaching me a song.
I'm still far from performing in public, but I can start to see that in my future (for fun of course, not for profit).

Doing good still...I'm concentrating on my barre chords on my acoustic this week, playing "Sitting, waiting, wishing" by Jack Johnson, it is taking forever to build up the particular muscles in my finger/hand/arm that you have to use in barres, but this song is great practice for that, and I've got a lot better...only one dead string every now and again.
My instructor's recital was really fun...once again, though, his little three year old son stole the show with his one chord repertoire and his piping little voice singing a children's hymn. I still don't know if I'll play in the next one; the young pre-teens and teenagers can show me up way too easy ;) I think I'll stick with playing again in church, it's safer there :heh

Hotel California! Rebecki are you in Am or Dm?
Sounds like your are working from some well known tunes. That helps alot - knowing what its supposed to sound like.
DW2 is planning guitar lessons, I hope to join her taking lessons too.
Just have to find the right teacher.
This summer there is a Father Folk Festival in Chester Co PA. Harpist, guitarist, a lot of home grown music. There is both the talented and the... well... I'll let the crowd judge....

We haven't had electricity or clean water this week (see my prayer request) and between that and the end of the semester I still haven't gotten to play. Other things like finding food and doing more critical things when still light have been more important and I can't see the music in the dark. However, I might have found a guitar instructor quite by accident running for cover when the tornado sirens went off again. So we'll see.

I have no idea at this point. He hasn't even given me the music for it yet. I'm looking forward to getting it so that me and the hubby can practice together.

Praise - Praying for your situation.
Any generators available?
Hopefully you can get to a camping supply store, maybe a group of you can pool together for essentials(camp stove, dutch oven.. instead of everyone buying thier own stuff.
It may sound silly but a Boy Scout manual is very helpful in these situations.
No Water is a bear. Maybe someone can do a water run?

Well, we just got power back last night, so I spent the day doing things like laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. Still have a lot to do, but maybe I can get some practice in soon. Tuning my guitar should be a blast though after all this.

I just got back from a weekend camp. I played the guitar for 2nd to 6th graders,
they said I did well. I don't believe them though. :thinking
I did mess up quite a bit. :panic

So, I bought myself an accoustic guitar so that I don't have to lug my amp around the house if I wanted to play in the living room or outside.
I got a Taylor Big Baby dreadnaught. Sounds great and is just the right size for my weird shaped body. Dust in the Wind sounds better on it too. :thumb
