Lovely!

My credit card bill just arrived with my fender strat and Marshall amp on it, so I'm right there with ya ;) Merry Christmas to me!

My instructor is having a Christmas recital tonight with all of his little youngling students (up to 10 years old I believe) that I'm going to go enjoy. Should be neat seeing all the little guitars.

During my trip back from Atlanta I met a guy coming back from Las Legas/Reno. He had just picked up a Fender for around $400. He said quality new and used musical instruments around there are cheep.

Not worth the plane ticket for me, but he happend to be out there and couldn't pass up the deal. He left the amp at a friends place. Shipping is $$$ cause of the weight.

I bet it will be cool to see the little ones thrashing their tunes.

Do you ever listen to "From the Top" (On NPR) a venue for outstanding young musicians?

Yes, the recital was really neat. Jed, my instructor, played with each of them so they didn't have to be alone on stage. The songs were varied from Christmas tunes to rock, to country, and the kids were about age 9-12. There's was one girl that blew everyone out of the water with her singing, I won't be surprised if I see her on TV some day, or hear her on the radio.

I've not heard "From the top" before, but sounds interesting.

I bet it was so cool. Sounds like a great teacher.

Another Taylor Swift perhaps?

DD younger, just expressed a desire to start the electric guitar. Maybe bass too. (maybe I can trick her into mandolin or dobro)

The older DD is progressing in celtic harp.

DS is leaning towards drums.... on no...

Sadly no fiddle players.:rolleyes

I always loved Orange Blossom Special.

hehehe, you'll have a whole band, but yes, too bad on the fiddle/violin. Every band needs a drum player, so don't be too hard on him ;) :heh

I'm playing at the church in about two weeks, and yes, I'm already nervous. I'm getting better, and my index finger on my fretting hand is finally getting used to barre chords...I'm building a callous on the side, which helps considerably :madgrin No, the strings aren't bad, it's just that I have the skin of a wimp that hasn't done much manual labor.

I wish I could remember the praise song, but Jed's little boy stole the show. He's only three and has a little tiny guitar...after the recital Jed promised him he could play in front of everyone (which his daddy almost forgot), and he perched right up there on stage with a pick and everything, strumming madly away singing about the Lord! It was very cute.

Our problem is we're all soloist, nobody wants to play with the other - except DS and he just keeps beating, 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, or whatever. But He's getting pretty good. We'll have to try an electronic set so that only the one with the headphones can hear.

I suggested he get a Drumitar like Futureman from the Flecktones.

Watching littleones play and sing their heart out is such a blessing. I hope this little one continues and we get to see a musician some day.

I can hardly wait to see God's Angel Band.

Don't worry about it too much. When I started playing the bass with our worship team, I was so nervous about messing up. Most days I still am, but I've gotten into the habit of praying before I play on Sundays to ask God to help me give a sacrifice of praise that is acceptable to him, and that he'll help me to do what I do for his glory and not for the praise of others to myself. It helps me a lot when I focus on playing my best to God, rather than trying to perform for the people.

Kliska,

What are some of the songs you are playing?

I know I'll mess up, but I've just got to get used to playing on, as the Lord doesn't mind, I'm sure. Yes, my mom does the same thing...playing for the Lord, not other people; she's the church organist. I'll be fine, it's just my first time ever playing in public like this, instead of in a whole band as I did in school...and I've only been playing guitar for such a short time.

I really appreciate the words of encouragement! (Prayers wouldn't hurt either :heh)
