CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Billy Graham's work as a pastor to presidents is coming to an end, but he is praying for Barack Obama as the nation's next leader begins his work, Graham's son said Friday on the ailing evangelist's 90th birthday.

Franklin Graham said in an interview that his father's mind remains sharp even as his body continues to fail. But the preacher who has counseled every president beginning with Eisenhower is not in line to mentor Obama.

I feel such a deep sense of sadness when I read this. He has always been a great prayer warrior for our country. I wish him well and God Bless him.

This IS sad. Seems kind of ironic that this is happening at the same time Obama is going into office.....symbolic of what's to come maybe??

from the article:

Though never partisan in his preaching, Billy Graham is a registered Democrat. His son expressed concern about Obama's views on abortion and gay marriage — an issue Franklin Graham raised in a meeting with the Illinois senator — saying that he and is father are conservatives who believe the Bible speaks clearly on those issues.

"President-elect Obama heard our position," Franklin Graham said. "And I told him that this was very difficult for us and hard for us. It's a moral issue that we just can't back down on."

"But he's our president-elect, and those positions that he holds that are contrary to Biblical teaching, I hope that God will change his heart," said Graham, who now heads the Charlotte-based Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

I'm glad they spoke up - I just wish they would have said something publicly before the election. It may not have made any difference, but a lot of folks in this country still respect Billy Graham.

I had a very different reaction when I read this....it seemed to me another big reason for Graham's end to his work with presidents is bc of our currrent president-elect's stance on abortion and gay marriage. I praised God for Rev. Graham sticking to his biblical convictions and not giving the appearance of condoning or agreeing with Obama's mores by counseling him.

I feel blessed that I was able to travel to Vancouver, BC to hear him preach--one of those 101 things to do before you die/get raptured kind of things. I would love to see him be raptured with the rest of us. Soon. Wouldn't that be amazing?

I am sad but relieved in a way that Billy Graham will not be dealing with Obamba, after the interview with Larry King, I was very disappointed with Graham's response to the questions that King asked him.

Yes having heard his reply I'm disappointed. He is right God is Love. His mercy and His Grace is immeasurable but if we do not repent and realise we are sinners we go to Hell and it is unloving and a LIE to preach a Gospel of love without Hell being mentioned because if we reject Jesus this is where we as sinners are going.
