MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (AP) - When 10-year-old Austin Smith heard Barack Obama had been elected president, he had one question: Does this mean I won't get a new gun for Christmas?
That brought his mother, the camouflage-clad Rachel Smith, to Bob Moates Sports Shop on Thursday, where she was picking out that special 20-gauge shotgun - one of at least five weapons she plans to buy before Obama takes office in January.
Like Smith, gun enthusiasts nationwide are stocking up on firearms out of fears that the combination of an Obama administration and a Democrat-dominated Congress will result in tough new gun laws.
"I think they're going to really try to crack down on guns and make it harder for people to try to purchase them," said Smith, 32, who taught all five of her children - ages 4 to 10 - to shoot because the family relies on game for food.

What the article doesn't mention, is that Obama says he will protect our gun rights, but he will make it harder to purchase them by adding a 500% excise tax on guns and ammunition. 500%!!!! We're going to start buying ammo now. We have several guns, and I don't think we'll buy anymore, but we'll need ammo for our guns, and it's better to get it now before he imposes those taxes.

500% Tax
=
$10 of ammo
= $50 in tax
Total cost of $10 box of ammo
$60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Protect" our guns rights...just what does that mean...protect them like they did in Washington DC ? D.C. prohibited keeping firearms in an operable condition at home, for defense against criminal attack.
After a long fight on that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the individual gun owner
( but it was a 5 to 4 decision, that means 4 were for the ban) but of course if Obama appoints a couple liberal Supreme Court Justices this can be revisited and the decision could go the other way when it comes up again and it will.
"Yet for decades, federal judges have seen the Constitution differently, allowing a range of gun-control measures imposed by governments seeking to curb gun violence.
Lower court judges overwhelmingly have ruled that the right "to keep and bear arms" isn't for individuals, but instead applies to state militias, such as National Guard units. The U.S. Supreme Court repeatedly declined to hear appeals of those rulings, fueling the debate over gun control and tension between the law and public opinion.
The case is called District of Columbia v. Heller because of security guard and D.C. resident Dick A. Heller, 65, whose application for a permit to keep a handgun in his home was denied by the city.
A federal district judge ruled against Heller and other residents who brought the suit, but a three-judge panel of the appeals court overturned that decision. By a 2 to 1 vote, the judges ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to private firearms and self-defense that "existed prior to the formation of the new government under the Constitution."

My husband purchased some additional ammunition last weekend and the store owner said gun sales/ammo sales were very brisk, in anticipation of an Obama victory. Now that it has come to pass, I can only imagine the sales they are doing. One area of the economy not in the doldrums!

I'm going to the next gun show in the area. A friend who supported Obama said I should look at his website in regards to the gun issue. Hah! That's pablum for the masses. The guy has a track record of not supporting gun rights.

Here's one article I found, and there are others.
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/leadertimes/s_595951.html
From the article:
"I can understand their fears," Atkinson said. "While an Illinois Senator, he pushed for a total confiscation of all handguns. He wanted a handgun ban for residents of public housing. When he didn't get a total handgun ban, he wanted handguns banned from certain neighborhoods, while allowing people in more affluent neighborhoods to own handguns. What we've been saying all along is that gun control is elitist, and he made our point. He's also gone on record as favoring increased excise taxes on guns and ammo, as much as 500 percent. Besides that, in my opinion the guy is a Marxist and his ideas would devastate our economy."
