i loved playing Greek dodge ball as a kid in grade school. we had a great new principle come in and teach us all how to play. he played with us every day.

now my son loves playing every tues night after his bsa meeting. :)

Ok Valerie, what is the "Greek" variant?

We always used 1 or 2 red rubber PA (I remember the yellow keystone) Playground balls in school.

We also played Kickball which was like dodgeball and baseball combined.

I don't know how authentic it was, it's just what he called it...

two teams evenly divided.
play area consisted of two adjoining, by long sides, rectangles.
play began with each team filling a reactangle, except for 2 players on each team would go on the other side of the opposing team, thereby sandwiching each team.

Then two balls would be in play at a time, each team being given one to start with, to one of the outer players on each team.

once balls were set into motion, the goal was to empty the other teams box and send them all to the outside line behind the opposing team.

if you were hit by a ball you were out and crossed behind the other teams box to take your place in the growing line of outed teammates who could continue to throw the ball at the trapped opponent team in front of them.

if you were still in and you caught a ball, you could return the throw at the other team. if you had some good players, catching it and gaining control could be tough, and the other team was reduced to leaping for their lives.

Yep-growing up as a kid, my most fun sport to play. Just alot of fun to throw the ball around taking people out, while trying to be the last man standing yourself.

OH yeah.....by the time I was in Middleschool I owned at this game... I'd be the last guy on the team and the last guy on the other team would get his ball caught lol.

Sometimes at our dojo we play dodgeball, if there's some extra time left at the end. The kids love it.
