That's not what I meant. I think we know He did those things.

I saw the movie and it's a good clean movie. It's not poking fun or blasphemus. Just movie for entertainment purposes. If you don't want to see it don't see it. The animals are nice. It's got some very funny lines. And actually it's a good over evil plot. It's about a family sticking together. It's a tale..it's not real. Morgan Freeman is not God and I don't think he will be struck by lightening by "acting" in a movie. I wish God would appear to us, even if it was like that, and talk to us face to face.

Thank you, when people actually SEE the movie they see that the plot is more about how a family should stick together and support eachother rather then "haha let's make fun of God".

Not blasphemous at all, if not 100% Christian in its attitudes. The love of God was played up over His righteousness, but it did point out there is a God; He is in control; He wills people to obey Him; and He prefers families to stick together.

My favorite throwaways in the movie:

During the Pledge of Allegiance in the Capitol, Freeman, as God, is saying, "One nation, under Me..."
In another scene, Freeman appears as a waiter talking to the wife, who has run away, convincing her to stick it through. His name tag is "AL MIGHTY."

From http://www.pluggedinonline.com:

"My greatest objection to the film is its use of God's name irreverently in eight or 10 instances, as in "oh my ---." It was simply unnecessary to write the script this way, and I was bothered by it. I was also uncomfortable with the depiction of our most righteous God as an ordinary man who, though endearing and warm, danced and performed funny miracles. Some people, even individuals with similar beliefs to mine, will not be offended by this presentation. But I was taught at my mother's knee that God is profoundly holy, and we are to approach Him with deep humility and reverence. The first four of the Ten Commandments refer to this divine nature, including a warning to those who would misuse His name or refer to it disrespectfully. How can I endorse a movie that runs past those boundaries, even though most others do far worse?

Finally, I was concerned about the rewriting of the story of Noah and his ark. "God," played charmingly by Morgan Freeman, told the new Noah character that the first flood occurred because the people hadn't done enough "acts of random kindness" (as in A.R.K. Get it?). God destroyed the world and its inhabitants, the contemporary god said, not to punish a wicked and perverse generation as we read in Genesis 6, but as a benign object lesson to encourage people to be nicer to each other. It was bad theology and a radical distortion of Scripture."

I can't help but think that a God that makes a donkey talk has a sense of humor.

My thoughts exactly. What movies like this do is dumb down the Bible and God to silly fairy tales that we can make a humourous movie about. This constant undermining of the seriousness of God's Word is exactly what Satan wants. The population get all too familiar with these 'sunday school stories' or depictions of a wishy washy God, that when they hear the real gospel, they're so much more likely to fob it off as a fairy tale and something only in the movies.

This movie is not out in Australia yet, yet the trailer was blasphemous enough for me. It's a "tale of a family sticking together"? That's great, but at the same time the premise is a mockery of God. The last time I saw a depiction of Hollywood's version of Noah's Ark (some TV movie a couple years back), it was Noah floating around getting chased by pirates and other evil survivors of the flood. Oh, I'm sure it had some morals, etc attached to it, but the premise was blasphemous and a mockery of the Bible.

What actually got me thinking about this movie was the fact that SermonSpice.com (http://www.sermonspice.com/cart/?p=leaf&leaf=evan_almighty) has been promoting it in their newsletter for weeks, and apparently providing free video clips of it. Unbelievable.

And I completely agree with the "oh my ---" comment. Most unsaved say it unwittingly, but I absolutely cringe when I hear a Christian say it. The third commandment broken right there.

God is so merciful towards us..

I don't have a desire to see this movie - because I think hollywood likes to take God out of context. They like to paint this loving God - that will accept any type of lifestyle and you will still get into heaven on good behavior. And I really think people actually believe it. Do we realize that only 25% of the living population will make the rapture. And 75% of the people that are left after the rapture will be killed within the 7 years. I think alot of people are really in the dark. And mind you it's by choice. Noone in america can say they never had the opportunity to hear about Christ and believe in Him.

We need an option for too silly to waste our money on. Given that it has made less than half of it's production costs after several weeks at the box office, that would be the clear winner.
