watch out for the pod people, they just love a good dose of CO2 along with that side dish of global warming! breaking news as it happens

guys, its not zombies or pod people... it is the borg, ramping up the avearge temp of the planet to make themselves more comfy when they take over.

they have already assimilated a number of trekkie fans...

sneaky little critters they are :tsk

Edward, do you believe that Jesus will soon return?
Do you believe that Israel's existence is prophecy fulfilled?
Do you believe that Jesus is the only way to God/heaven?
Is having a large carbon footprint a sin?

I ask these questions for a reason, and not to be mean or condescending. Your answers will shed a light on everything else you've said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20080507/sc_livescience/coldwaterthrownonantarcticwarmingpredictionsnew data out shows the Antarctic is not warming up as expected and Gasp! the ozone hole is what causes the sub-sub zero conditions of the antarctic...... So either the ozone hole is man made, very highly doubtful (the freon which was so highly touted as being the cause De jour, which in fact is heavier than air so how did it get miles up into the stratosphere), or the ozone hole is a naturally accruing phenomenon.

I guess the global warming priests that tout mans involvement in the sky is falling charade haven't really looked at the truth in their statements

Well, Edward, there is not consensus. There are plenty of scientists who do not subscribe to your view of climate change.

Did you read my earlier notes? I’ll copy it again:

(I hope you aren't basing your scientific ideas on news reports by the media - those oversensationalize each new idea, and never take the time to rationally compare conflicting views. Or nearly as bad, based on what one scientists said at one point - one can always find a few crackpots who'll say anything, like you can still find "scientists" today who'll say that smoking doesn't cause cancer, that AIDS isn't related to a virus, etc.)

Here is the list of the organizations that agree that global warming is real:

(yep, that's right. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Zip.)

Now, you can find a few articles by scientists saying things like AIDS isn’t caused by a virus, or that vaccines are harmful, etc. These are all unsupported and against the scientific consensus. Does Mr. Mann follow all those crackpots too? Mr. Mann, if you have kids, did you have them vaccinated? Did you encourage them to smoke (since some scientists say that smoking is harmless?

Kerri-

you really must think that Christians are all morons or something. I assure you, if that is your belief, you are very mistaken.

If I thought that, would I bother with data or reason in discussion with other Christians? Does not the Holy Spirit sometimes reach people through other people?

I hope you can see why an observer to this thread may conclude that some people focus on a short time frame while ignoring the fact that the CO2 rise matches the timing of the temperature increase, as well as ignoring the scientific consensus.

Your post is very defensive. I guess we’ll just agree to disagree.

Mr. Mann: You have ignored question after question from me, and yet ask me questions?

Edward, do you believe that Jesus will soon return?

Yes, I expect the second coming to be soon.
Do you believe that Israel's existence is prophecy fulfilled?
Yes, I think that the reexistence of Israel is clearly true, and it was prophesied.

Do you believe that Jesus is the only way to God/heaven?
Yes, as long as we agree about what you mean by “Jesus”. For instance, I don’t think Mormons follow the same Jesus others do, nor other groups.

Is having a large carbon footprint a sin?

In the sense of “doing something Jesus would not do or encourage”, yes. I don’t think it’s anywhere near the worst sins out there though.

I read that article:

Please read the article – this by no means doubts anything I’ve written. It shows that the models were off in one region for an identified cause.

One reason that Antarctica hasn't warmed as much as other parts of the globe is the existence of the ozone hole overhead: It alters wind patterns, creating a swirling belt of winds around the landmass that keeps comparatively warm air from seeping in, preserving the continent's frigid temperatures.

More than that, the new data (including this article) reaffirms the models:

The findings of the study don't call into question model projections for other parts of the globe, Monaghan said. "The models are really doing quite a good job at simulating the 20th century changes over the six inhabited continents," he told LiveScience.

Saying this article makes global warming less real is simply unsupported by the article itself.

I’m starting to think this has ceased to be a productive conversation.

Edward.

Look at this article, look at the scientists mentioned, look at their credentials. It has too much info to just excerpt portions.

Maybe I should go and update wikipedia, since obviously, nobody has bothered. To some if it's not there it must be so.:doh

There are more scientists than you may want to acknowledge.

Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn't exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth. But few listen, despite the fact that I was one of the first Canadian Ph.Ds. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition. Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and was a climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg. For some reason (actually for many), the World is not listening. Here is why.

The rest of the story should be of interest to global warming alarmists.

So what, then, is one to make of this alleged debate? I would suggest at least three points.

First, nonscientists generally do not want to bother with understanding the science. Claims of consensus relieve policy types, environmental advocates and politicians of any need to do so. Such claims also serve to intimidate the public and even scientists--especially those outside the area of climate dynamics. Secondly, given that the question of human attribution largely cannot be resolved, its use in promoting visions of disaster constitutes nothing so much as a bait-and-switch scam. That is an inauspicious beginning to what Mr. Gore claims is not a political issue but a "moral" crusade.

Lastly, there is a clear attempt to establish truth not by scientific methods but by perpetual repetition. An earlier attempt at this was accompanied by tragedy. Perhaps Marx was right. This time around we may have farce--if we're lucky.

Mr. Lindzen is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT.

These are just a couple of hundreds. Look at their credentials. I am not sure about your training, but these guys are above my pay grade, yet they disagree with you.

There are far more opponents than wikipedia may want to acknowledge. :scratch

I can't believe that you are suggesting that Jesus is more concerned about whether or not we drive an SUV when men's souls and hearts are further and further from Him?

Our commission is to go out and spread the gospel...... THAT, above all else, is what we will be answering for- not whether or not we saw some charts and decided to trade our SUV in for a sedan.

So folks, if you need to take those plane trips to go on missions, or use that big old van to load up with goods to take to the poor, please don't think it would upset God in any way if your "carbon footprint" is higher than the next guy because of it.

The Lord told us in the scriptures that creation itself would groan for His coming.... do you really think that we should be trusting in men's graphs (which are ever changing depending on their limited knowledge and/or agendas) in the hopes that we can actually change this? No, the LORD is coming, creation is groaning, and scripture tells us to expect these birth pangs... and THAT is why we are seeing an increase in wild weather, famine, pestilence, earthquakes, cyclones, tornadoes etc....

So let's stop worrying about those things that we can not change, and start being about the business of our Lord. (I say that as much or more to myself as anyone else). Time is short- Maranatha!

Good to get things in perspective. Our eternal salvation is what is important and that is not affected by the size of our vehicle. :thumb

Now does that mean that we have carte blanche to go and cause pollution and waste resources? No. We are still responsible to God for how we manage and use His resources, regardless of whether global warming is a reality or a hoax. But it is not a salvation issue, it is a stewardship issue.
