WASHINGTON (AP) -- At least 110 banks have requested about $220 billion from the Treasury Department's rescue fund, and many more are expected to have submitted applications before Friday's deadline.

The figures, from banks' own statements and analyst reports, indicate the requests are closing in on the $250 billion the Treasury set aside from the $700 billion fund to purchase stock in banks.

Analysts at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods estimated that 62 banks have received full or preliminary approval from the Treasury for $173 billion from the Troubled Asset Relief Program. The government said Monday that American International Group Inc. also would receive $40 billion from the program.........

Everybody wants a piece of the action. I have a bad feeling that will just keep bailing out until we're into a deep depression. The mint is not going to be able to print money greenbacks fast enough. More! More! Faster!

Two banks here in Oklahoma have refused the offer of bailout money. We are very proud of them!!

I agree the Bible mentions this somewhere also. Just not sure where it is. I know it's in the Old Testament.

New money with no backing is being printed, that the gross national product soon won't be enough to pay for the mere interest that America owes its creditors..

Printing more money will just cause inflation. That will greatly decrease the value of whatever savings people have managed to put away.

I believe that we truly will have a depression sometime soon if the government keeps giving money away endlessly. I think the whole system will come crashing down like a house made of cards. It might not take very long to reach that point at the rate events are happening.

Yeah - like THAT's gonna happen! I wonder if I should cash out my 401k now, while it's still worth something, and just leave it in my bank account for someone to use when I'm gone?
