With things going the way they are I wouldn't be surprised if that happened here, too.

Putin is not the guy you should worry about. Vladimir Zhirinovsky is not as level headed as Putin.

Yes, a very erratic individual, but one who can be relegated to the trash heap of Russian history, a mere footnote.

Ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky said the measure would bring Russia "into conformity" with other nations, such as France, where the president is elected for five years.
Watch out for that guy! Joel Rosenburg has a character in one of his novels based on him. If he ever gains power, prophecy events will begin to take off very quickly.
I am not so certain he is a "has been". Russian politics are extremely unpredictable. Historically, the least likely or the fallen and bruised have risen to power overnight.
I thought the admiration of Stalin was done and over, but trip to the Ukraine a few years ago was an eye opener. There are quite a few who still consider him a hero.
I am concerned that the article ( or should I say the reporter) would even be seeking Zhrinovsky's opinion.

He has been putting the criminals away over there. Many here miss the mark and want to assume he is evil because he is a strong man who looks out for the well being of his nation. Remember this. Russia will be a member of the EU one day. People are getting fed up with the way we do things.

What's the significance of Russia joining the EU?
