BEIJING – A Muslim Uighur woman who's more than six months pregnant remained under watch in a hospital in China's far northwest Friday, awaiting a forced abortion by authorities who don't want her to have a third child.

A nurse who's tending to the woman at a hospital in Yining, near China's border with Kazakhstan, said physicians had delayed the abortion because of international queries about her case.

China's family-planning policy allows minorities, including Uighurs, to have more than one child. If minority couples are urban dwellers, they may have two children, while rural farmers may have three children. Many majority Han Chinese see those exceptions as unfair.

Those who violate the rule must pay large fines, although reports of officials ordering forced abortions in rural and semirural areas are fairly common.

The case of Arzigul Tursun is raising attention because she's 26 weeks pregnant and supporters say an abortion could threaten her health. Her husband, who goes by the single name Nurmemet, said officials in their village near Yining learned of the pregnancy and warned the couple that their house and other property would be seized if Arzigul didn't undergo an abortion. He said the couple might have until Monday to appeal their case.

Arzigul is at the Municipal Watergate Hospital in Yining in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, which is populated heavily with Uighurs (pronounced WEE-gers), a Turkic-speaking Muslim minority. Militant Uighurs seeking independence from China have carried out a terrorism campaign that has intensified this year, and social tensions in the region are high.

U.S. Rep. Christopher Smith, a New Jersey Republican, wrote China's ambassador to Washington, Zhou Wenzhong, on Thursday to demand that "the nightmare of a forced abortion" not be carried out.

Arzigul and Nurmemet already have two girls at their home in the village of Bulaq. According to the Washington-based Uyghur Human Rights Project, Arzigul fled Bulaq when officials first urged her to have an abortion, but she returned after her family received threats of asset seizure. "We considered our two girls," Nurmemet said in a phone interview. "If the house and properties were taken away, how would they live? So my wife came back home and went to the hospital."

Arzigul holds a rural household registration but her husband is registered in an urban area, creating some legal confusion. Local officials eventually demanded that she terminate her pregnancy.

Lord Jesus protect that unborn child. Give the parents strength to have this child. Protect their family Lord. Keep them shelter.

:pray What "clout" does the US have when the same abortions are done here in the US. It is horrible that China does this to their people, I have heard horrible stories of families who have endured this and who hid the mother while the families did everything they could to come up with the fines, which are next to impossible to raise. What a sick world we live in, Lord have mercy on this child.

Makes me think of what the Israelite women were facing in Egypt when Moses was born.

A friend of ours is from China and when she was little a neighbor defied the orders of the politicians to only have one child...she had 3 and they forced her out of her job and she now sits on her porch and rocks all day...like someone drugged her to show everyone what the punishment would look like.

Horrible horrible government.

There are a lot of Chinese nationals who enter the U.S. illegally and then seek asylum based on forced abortion and forced sterilization. When seeking asylum, they have to prove "credible fear" of returning to their homeland.

The Chinese government not only punishes the woman for getting pregnant, but the whole family is punished as well. They are stripped of their home and their employment.

The Chinese punish criminals in the same manner. If your child is caught committing a crime, the parents lose their jobs. The thought behind that is: If you can't raise your child right, then you can't be trusted with any position of responsibility.

I'm not condoning the Chinese government, I'm just telling you how it is. If you break a law, your whole family pays the price.

It's their way of controlling crime and controlling their over-population.

I know how you feel.

I listen to the full unabridged version of the Left Behind series.
When Obama first came to light on the news I was a bit surprised. Then suddenly things he did or said or people said of him really freaked me out. It was so much like Nicolie (sp). I got chills too. Then I wondered if anyone else had that same idea.. So I googled Obama 666. WOW.. there were a ton of sites with many ideas.. Now don't get me wrong. I don't mean to sit here and say he's the Antichrist. It was just really eerie how similar he was to the books Antichrist.
Typing that in google is how I found this website.. If anything else that was a true God send to me. Everyone here bring such a variety of faith, hope, love, friendship, life and life's issues..
Which now brings us to this poor woman who has a child not yet born and they want to kill it. I can't understand that logic. It's beyond wrong and I pray that all who are involved pray that the right thing will be done. That Jesus will be with them. I know it said Muslim but still.. I pray that Jesus will be with them all and that His will be done not anyone else's..

God Bless...
