Help! We're making a giant peach for our James and the Giant Peach project and I (the ever-intelligent "teacher") forgot to spread margarine over the punch ball before we started covering it. Can anyone tell me what will happen if we go ahead and pop the punch ball once it's dry?

if it's a thin layer it may suck it in with the balloon. Or it may just pop and stick to the sides.
Maybe you could pop it in more than one place at the same time. So it does not collapse on just one side. releasing pressure so to speak.

if your walls are thick enough, it should peel itself off fine. i have made many elmer's glue and newspaper pinatas and never used a grease for the punching balloons. never had a problem either.

We made paper mache puppet heads using balloons as the forms and we just popped the balloons when they were dry and pulled them out through the neck hole.
