Sorry to step into your territory fellas, but DH wants a Dremmel tool.

1. How expensive are they?

2. Do I buy just the tool or get the kit?

3. Where do I buy it?

4. Name brand or knock off?

Thank you!

Invader? Now we've got to get an exterminator to get rid of the cooties...

4. I love my dremel. I'll start with that so you know I have a bias. I have owned dremel-like devices but in the end the real thing did the best job.
2. Buying a kit it up you you (and your DH's hobbies) Does he need the router? Does he need the bendy-arm attachment? If he would be just as happy with good CORDED dremel and a bunch of accessories (that would be my preference.)
Etc. Go with the corded...the cordless (I own both) just doesn't have the oomph and it isn't good at sustaining what power it does have.
1. Prices should be good right now. Since I have all the dremel-stuff I need, I haven't looked. This is the season to buy, look for coupons, sales, and find a manager and ask for 10% off.
3. You can get one at Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, ACE...you know the type...

He will love it. Mine have lasted for years. Also...don't buy the knock-off accessories (wheels, grinders, etc.) they aren't as strong or as well made. I'll admit I pinched pennies and was quite unhappy...endedup buying the "real" grinding wheels and was very pleased.

The one thing I'd add, make sure it's a variable speed one.

The variable speed Dremmel is what I bought my husband and he is very happy with it. He should be since that's what he requested. :)

Oh, and I don't have cooties. I'm too old for them.

If your DH is working with small objects, get him the flexi-shaft attachment. It allows you to work on small items much easier than by just holding the whole tool. I use it for my hobbies and crafts.

A few years ago it was my theory that, at birth, every male should be assigned a Leatherman tool and a Dremel. I may have to take up that cause again, I had forgotten about it.

I agree with variable speed 100%, I love that feature but forgot to mention it...

Since you know his hobbies and interests, go to your chosen store and poke about in Dremel-land. There are so many options you'll find exactly what you want. I know people who love the flex-shaft attachment...personally, I haven't used that bit in 3 years.

Regardless of what you get, he will be happy. Oh, and expect to now pass through the Dremel secion whenever you go to a store...I am like a puppy looking for a biscuit when I see Dremel gear.
