SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California's highest court has agreed to hear legal challenges to a new ban on gay marriage, but is refusing to allow gay couples to resume marrying until it rules.

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted three lawsuits seeking to overturn Proposition 8. The amendment passed this month with 52 percent of the vote. The court did not elaborate on its decision.

All three cases claim the ban abridges the civil rights of a vulnerable minority group. They argue that voters alone did not have the authority to enact such a significant constitutional change.

Exactly. What was the whole point of voting in the first place if a court can just come and change it?

Yet another sign that we no longer have a "government of the people, by the people and for the people". I pray that the court will uphold the wishes of the voters, but, I'm doubtful. It will be a very sad day in our state for many God-fearing, decent people if the court overturns this.

I believe they will overturn it because they're the ones causing an uproar and acting violent towards us. How can we cause the same impact and be Christ like? :idunno Perhaps if we marched in the streets, would they take us in account? Doubt it! We would be the first ones in jail.


Plus POTUS wife is for it 100% .. She complained the amendment is a stain to the constitution.:tsk

It won't be far off in the future and America will be ruled by an oligarchy and/or totalitarianism instead of democracy. Someday no more republic that America used to be. Right now I don't think our votes mean much anymore. I almost wonder if Obama was pre-selected before we voted.

All we can do is pray. I live in cali and if this gets overturned then our churches are going to get hit pretty bad.
