And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. -- 2Sam 6:7

Why did God kill Uzzah for touching the ark, but didn't kill all the people who touched it after him?

hi , im just recalling from memory so excuse me if im in error: i believe in the law books god handed down strict instructions when the law was given ie ten commandments on how exactly the ark of the covenanant was too be built and that the tribe off levi levites were god selected and dedicated too office off ministers off the law off god and ceremonies regarding the carrying out off duties regarding the handleing off the ark off the covenant under pain off death nobody but a ministering levite had permission too handle the ark and it apears that uzza not being a ministering levite broke that covenant and god made an example off him before the people as a warning too others :now that opens up another question was uzza in ignorance when he stretched forth his hand and touched the ark i seriously doubt that as all the house off israel would have been strictly the commandments off god including commands off the ministry off the ark.

You're right! The law does state how to carry the ark. In assuming that his sinful hands were more clean than the dusty ground, Uzzah tried to prevent the ark from falling. God is his exceeding holiness struck down Uzzah and there he died. However, later we find that other men, albeit it, more sinful men, touched the ark and did not die. Why Uzzah and not them?

what other sinful men would that be : when ever god declared judgments on israel through the prophets jeremia hosea etc and the lord eventually departed from them back then that would mean he with drew from the holy of holys and by his decree he used granted armies permission too invade israel and take them captive, the babylonians we know that account mene mene tekle upharison and the writing on the wall because they mocked god with the utensils from the house off god when they stole the things inside the temple and carried them into babylon there were the asyrians ,romans etc also history records a roman entering the temple and going into the veil only to be disapointed at what he found mention is made he opened the ark expecting gold but found only the two stone tablets off the ten commandments if i recall alexander the great went into the temple again titus in ad 70 before destruction off temple entered and was awe struck at the beauty he seen. one thing all these conquors had in common was god did not strike them dead on handling the ark because he had removed his presence from out there midst because they repented not at the word off his prophets and god carried out his judgements on the nation as a whole we also know when they returned from the babylon captivity they apeared repentant and the temple was repaired and services resumed i take it the lord at that time blessed them with his pressence and i take it that ark once again would have same commandment on it touching meant death because the lords pressence would have been around. also when the lord cried with a loud voice on the cross IT IS FINISHED the viel in the temple was torn in two so we asume up ontil that point the lords presence was there.

I was talking about the Philistines in 1Sam chapts 5 and 6. The had the ark of the Lord in their filthy temples, etc. God killed his own man - namely, Uzzah, for touching the ark, and did not kill the Philistines. Why do you think that is?

there were lots off people killed during the arks stay in philistine they did not die instantly like uzza but many did die ontil the ark was returned too the levites six months later plus the philistines were not schooled in the laws off israel plus they were besides themselves with doubts and fear and in the end they had too speak with an israelite and recieve instruction on what to do to apease god.
