At a meeting Thursday night, the five-member Hempstead school board voted unanimously to rename one of its schools Barack Obama Elementary School, said Superintendent Joseph Laria.

The change was effective immediately, although the district does not have a new sign yet. The school, formerly called Ludlum Elementary School, is on Williams Street in Hempstead..........

Don't they usually wait until someone is dead to name a school after them?

They don't always wait until the person is dead. However, when naming things after a presdent, they usually wait until he is no longer president. President-elect Barak Obama hasn't even served the first second of his presidency. I wonder how they're going to feel about our soon to be president at the end of his first term.
