I want to start making my own soap. I've done it one time, a very long time ago and I no longer have the supplies for making it. Does anyone here make their own soap?
Do you have any recipes you would like to share? I want all natural soaps, 'cause the commercial stuff is drying my skin out. I know you have to use lye, but I can't remember much of anything else. Guess I'm off to the library to get some books.

Are you making body soap or washing soap??
I have a friend that makes washing soap, but I am interested in body soap. Could you use glycerin?

I want to make body soap. I won't use glycerin unless I make the pour and mold kind, I'll be making real soap (lye). You can make some really nice soaps, but it takes time, about 4 weeks for it to completely soponify. I just haven't done it in so long, I can't remember exactly how to do it. You can add fragrance, and oils, and exfoliaters like oatmeal, etc.
You have to have a candy thermometer, wooden spoons, stainless steel bowl, molds (optional), sodium hydroxide (lye), water, fats, and then the extra ingredients like fragrance, and oils.
I found some sites online that give instructions on how to do it and some recipes I may try them and see how they turn out.

Don't feel bad, happened to me in a prophecy thread, I ended up with six posts!!! :scratch
I don't have a recipe for you, I'll see what I can find, have you done an internet search?

anyone know if there is such a thing as a recipe for liquid laundry soap that can be made with salvaged kitchen fats.... like rendered bacon grease and hamburger drippings?
or should i make solid soaps and then grind it up... and how do people grind their soap? i don't really feel like hand grating 10 bars of carefully molded soap for the laundry.... :p
