View Full Version : When the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses are at the door...

I once rented an apartment to a group of morman missionaries for a short period of time. I had a nice conversation with them and then they started saying that we become equals with Jesus when we die. I believe they also said something about having our own universe to be a god over.

I'll talk to the Mormons, but the Jehovah's Witnesses I won't (I suddenly have to go pull weeds in 100 degree weather). The Mormons are pretty reasonable, they accept the fact that I'm Lutheran and just invite me to their church. I had a Pentecostal tell me once that "Lutherans pray to Martin Luther." I just laughed. I suppose Methodists pray to John Wesley?

I have an unsaved friend I witnessed to for quite a long time who finally told me he just couldn't believe-but if I disappeared in the rapture of the church he would be one of the first to become a believer. His father, whom he'd been estranged from for most of his life, was a JW, and eventually, in the mans old age, they decided to meet. My friend went with this mans family for a several day JW conference and my friend said it was amazing how everything was pre-set up by headquarters before hand. Even the 'plays' that were performed were just acted out-so no-one could err in the lines spoken.
But the thing that really stood out the most to me of all the things my friend told me, was something that pertains to all of us, no matter what our denominational beliefs are. My friend said he found his fathers wife not to be real loving and considerate towards his father, that neither she nor her daughter were real friendly. He said the daughters husband was however. He stated that the daughter went on and on about how some of the people were inappropriately dressed and she would never dress that way, and she seemed to totally miss the fact that she was so full of pride. He then proceeded to tell me he would never become a "Christian" because the last thing he ever wanted to be was a person like them. After talking for awhile, he did agree that not all people he'd met that were Christians were like them, and he agreed to be open to the possibility of someday becoming a Christian.
The point of this post is that sometimes it matters not what we know of the Word, or how we present it to others, what really matters is how we treat people and carry our own selves. Our mannerisms, courtesy, friendliness and attitude may play an important role in the mind of someone who is thinking about Christianity.

Sadly there are "Christians" out there like that. My grandmother on my dad's side was like that. She never cut her hair, or wore pants, make up and thought it was a sin to wear a wedding ring. But she was so full of pride and arrogance.
I think that sometimes when people make rules to be a "Christians" that they can become like Jew did In Jesus day. Keeping the law of God but totally missing out on knowing God.
My grandmother on my mom's side was the opposite. She was the most humble person I ever met. She never said a bad word about anyone. Her gift was to be a prayer warrier and she did well with her gift.
But one thing that you need to remind people when they say they could not be a Christian because of the hypocrites. That there are hypocrites in everything.
For instance everyone who goes to a baseball game doesn't like sports. Some go just to impress their mate. Some go to get the freeby.
Yes, there are bad "Christians", but our job is not to weed out the bad but to make sure we are right with God. God will divide the wheat from the weeds when it is all said and done.
The next time you talk to this man ask him "If they were giving away $500.00 dollars to everyone who came to a baseball game, would you stay home because some people are going just for the money and not to watch the game?"
We don't want to miss out on Heaven because of people who are only "Christian" in name only.
And yes, my friend you are so right as Christians we need to pray that God will help us to live our lives in a way that will bring folks to Christ and not chase them away.

The Holy Spirit took control of my tongue and said, "Because His spirit witnesses to my spirit."
Wow Whisper, that had to be the Lord speaking through you. The truth is hard to refute. ysic, DLee

They were argumentative and aggressive to the point of actually sticking their foot in people's doors and pushing them open. Getting in their faces.
oh how i would love for this to happen... i'm just not fortunate enough for people to act like this. i can't even begin to describe the look of insane joy on my face had a JW stuck his foot in my door... :hehee
and got in my face? :gaah

This is true. The last time I spoke with them I asked "why bother then?" :idunno ...............and they did not have an answer. *chirp*
I have been told they are now waiting to fill up the millenial kingdom. The works are to beat out other JWs to the MK.
