A Canadian mother has frozen her eggs for use by her seven-year-old daughter, who cannot have children naturally.

Should the girl opt to use the eggs and gain regulatory approval, she would effectively have a baby that was her half-brother or sister.

Critics said the work, presented at a fertility conference in Lyon, was deeply concerning.

But the doctors from the McGill Reproductive Center, Montreal, called the donation an act of motherly love.

Also, the girl and any future partner would have a choice as to whether to use the eggs or not, they said.

How much therapy are this girl's kids going to need? Their grandmother is actually their mother and their mother is actually their half-sister. My head hurts just thinking about all of this. :scratch

Does anyone know the song "I Am My Own Grandpa"?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

IMO a 7 year old is just a little bit too young to have a pelvic exam to know if she would be capable of having her own children in the future.

Well I can see the reasoning behind wanting her daughter to be able to give birth and experience the joys of motherhood. However, due to the gentetics of it, I'd say it probably would be better to adopt to avoid the weirdness of it all.......

reminds of me of the friend's episodes where phoebe becomes a surrogate mother for her brother and his wife.

I can understand this. It's very sad when anyone is infertile and I have heard of a fertile sister giving an infertile sister an egg so that she may have a child. It's relatively common for people to donate eggs to family members.

This mother wants to give her daughter the ability to have children. I can completely understand this. A parent would give anything to their child if it was needed. This mother sees a need of her child and wants to fix it. I can understand it. She is doing it out of love. It might not be the RIGHT thing to do (the whole my-daughter-is-my-sister thing). but I can see that it was done in love.

And the daughter does not have to ever use the eggs. She and her husband can spend years thinking it over before they decide whether they want to or not.

Personally, I'm okay with this. I think about if my daughter came to me and told me she were infertile. I would do anything I could to help her - I'd give her anything she wanted. I'd give her 20 eggs if she wanted them. The mother in the above article is obviously thinking ahead because by the time her daughter is old enough to understand and ask her (possibly) for an egg, the mother may be too old to give her any. So she is saving them now while she can.

I can understand it.
