Yeah, I do see a trend as well. There was a story recently of a black bear dragging a kid out of his tent as he slept and killed him. Official said it is becoming more common with the black bear going after humans in that area. Also, and these are just cute little squirrels mind you, but they seem to live in our backyard and they don't have fear of us like they used to. I don't see an issue with the birds, but we don't have the larger species in these parts.
I hate squirrels!!
They fear me though... I have shot and killed many of them in my back yard... I had one chew into the gable vent of my house and into my attic. They are toast now ;) My only problem is... I live in town so I can't use my .22LR rifle.. I'm stuck using air rifles :( :heh

Actually we are moving into their territory. In California generation after generation (black bears, mountain lions) have known the mountains as their own, but every year we the developers buy land farther and farther into the forest areas. Can't explain to the bears the cost of land!

What is happening that is interesting is that wild animals are moving BACK into areas which were formerly devoid of them. In some suburban and even urban areas there are sightings of moose, cougars, bears and even coyotes, wherein such animals had not been seen for years, if not decades, and suddenly are being seen again. Now THAT is odd.

Ummm....
No... it's the other way around. WE are moving into THEIR "territory".
Yup!
As we build more we squeeze them out of land they were used to inhabiting. They're venturing out for more food and territory and that's where we are typically living.
Local deer used to be contend with the woods. As more and more woods disappear they're not getting as much food so they venture up our driveway and eat flowers, shrubs and roses. As little as five years ago they NEVER did that. It's affecting all the animals.

Did you hear the story couple months ago about some squirles who attacked a dog and killed him. Yeah it took me a while to believe it too, but it was on the news.

We are feeding them too much or have too much good food to eat laying around. Maybe they have trouble finding food.
Or maybe we seem too friendly and they are more comfortable around us.

No I didn't hear about that....what breed of dog? I'm thinking it was probably a toy breed? That's pretty unusual though. My daughter's chihuaha (sp) /daschund barks like crazy when they're in the backyard and he's not really a barker otherwise. Chases them up the tree and keeps yapping away. It does get annoying. I watched 2 of the squirrels do a little dance with each other and then attack. Not sure if it was play or real fighting. But 2 others then joined under the trampoline to watch...was kinda funny. But I hope the dog is safe from them. Glad you told me about that story cuz I'll have dh keep an ear out for trouble.

I live in "Bigfoot" country and wonder when this creature will finally be forced out of his neck of the woods. Since no remains have ever been found, their existance is still a mystery.
Another thought: Satan knows his time is short and as with all the other increase in crimes, he might just be sending demons into these attack animals. :idunno
