Mah' Pappy is from Ma-zur-rah,
Mine Mutter comst from Penncil-vain-ya once.
And I was born in Maryland. So I didn't get an accent, but I can adapt quickly depending if there is fried okra + cracklin cornbread, summer sausage + honkey eggs, or steamed blue crab.

Ye-Haw Once. And Welcome.

Hi Wally! Hi Chula! Hi Believer! Hi Jason! Hi anath!

:lol2 All ya'll are crackin' me up!

Right after I moved here to "Old Dominion" I began working as a property manager trying to get 3 homes rented out. The calls came day and night, and I tried REAL hard to listen carefully and understand folks, but I would sometimes have to ask them to repeat themselves 2 or 3 times. It was so embarassing! They probably thought I needed to get my hearing checked!

Hey Wally, did you mean "honkey eggs" or "hunky eggs". When my uncle from Pennsylvania visited last fall, he cooked what he called "hunky eggs" for us for breakfast. It was scrambled eggs with sausage, onions, peppers, cheese, and potatoes all mixed in. It was awesome- I make it a lot now.

Yep same stuff, dialect can change from county to county. We also call it Muss-fress (must-eat/feed), which could be any meal all mixed up so that you only have one choice from the table.

However, I love grits with butter, and dislike skrapple(spelling challenged by admin) or fried mush... go figure.

But then that is why God gave us so many different foods, so we all should be able to find something we like to eat.:yeah

Ok, I have seen "s****ple" in the store here and thought that sounded like a nice homey southern type food, but isn't it really "pig innards" or something?

Uh oh, edited again, darn it, I'm gonna have to get used to this. One post I was talking about s-c-r-a-p-booking and I looked like a total potty mouth.

It's my understanding there are various recipies, pork, beef,...some times meat, sometimes offal or some mix between. There is also souse and tripe similar stuff, neither of which I care to eat again.
I was told the word comes from Skrap-pile - the trimmings left over. The stuff is cooked, ground and sometimes mixed with cornmeal to form a paste, (I may have the order wrong) which is then chilled in a bread pan. It's then sliced from the molded loaf and fried. You may find it delicious.

As to what is in the skrapple near you, you may be better of not asking. ;)

Try it, if you like it fine, if not... well the Hebrews wern't supposed to eat organs and offal either , so you have a Biblical justification for abstaining.

The hyphens work better than the small-random-discarded-pieces-booking alternative. Hopefully the k doesent confuse anyone.

PS: all y'all in deutch is Youse. (yoos) as in: Youse guys ist funny!

Hi There made2luv,

Welcome to RR, and good luck on your transplant.

I have a brother who moved to California after high school, after the Air Force. He now says the word "water" weird.

My sister moved to NC after she got married after high school. Her children call her "Ma" for some strange reason instead of Mom. :)

Hey everybody, just thought I'd drop in here and introduce myself. I'm a happily married mom of 3, and CA native who was transplanted to VA about 2 years ago (culture shock!)

I'm here hoping to find some intelligent, stimulating grown-up conversation, but if I can't find that, I'll be happy to partake in silly, nonsensical, everyday breeze shootin' with some fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Welcome Sister! :wave
