Hey everybody, just thought I'd drop in here and introduce myself. I'm a happily married mom of 3, and CA native who was transplanted to VA about 2 years ago (culture shock!)

I'm here hoping to find some intelligent, stimulating grown-up conversation, but if I can't find that, I'll be happy to partake in silly, nonsensical, everyday breeze shootin' with some fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Welcome to the board:hug

we had the opposite we moved from Texas to Washington State. Now our family calls us tree hugging liberals, but we are still conservative Texans.:yay
We have gone green though. We bought a hybrid civic and bought reusable grocery bags. Of course they would work better if we could remember to take them to the store more often:aha

Thanks for the welcome Celticmist and Betty! :wave

Betty, we went from being forced to recycle in CA, to practically having to pay to recycle here (we have to drive to the other side of town to get to the big public recycle bins). Not sure how I feel about throwing perfectly good plastic milk jugs in the trash can, but I guess I don't feel bad enough about it to drive across town to recycle them! :lol2

here they pick up your recycled stuff in front of your house. Because we live in an apartment, we don't recycle because there is only one huge trash bin, but we move this month we will be renting a house and we will be forced to recycle.
The biggest problem will be remebering what to put in what can.

Hi Ya'll (CA transplant practicing her Southern) Just remember...

'Y'all' (You All) actually only refers to one person.
If you want to refer to several people at once its 'All Y'all'.

Also, they cook green beans for 3 days on purpose. 'Steamed' means 'raw' down there.

Celticmist, I moved here from California. What part of VA were you from?

:lol2 Hootmon, I guess I still need more practice on my Southern. You had me laughing outloud about the green bean thing! Anybody ever been to "Country Cooking"? I swear, they cook the carrots so long, they turn brown! :lol2

Betty, I remember how everyone in my neighborhood back in Cali grumbled when the city contracted a new waste disposal company and we all had to start recycling. We had three different bins for the recyclables! Then they switched to another company where you had 3 cans, one for trash (the smallest), one for "yard waste" (like clippings) and one for recyclables. I remember they would tack an extra charge on your bill if they emptied your cans and you had something in the wrong bin. :lol2

they do that here in Washington State. I figure we will have to pay at least one fine before we get the hang of it. Back in Texas we once made an attempt to recycle. We bought three bins and put them under our car port in our apartment. Somebody stoled all three bins one night.:gaah

Hello made2luv and welcome.
Glad you escaped from CA and welcome to the real world.
Virginia is considered the South but it's still pretty much North to me.

Hope to see "y'all" on here a lot.!!
God Bless
