Hello,
I don't know if someone has already suggested this or if you would even consider it, but I think a Apology Forum would be good. Here's why:
Sometimes people say things they wish they had not. Maybe out of anger or stupidity or lack of knowledge. Discussions turn to debates turn to ugliness, then the thread is closed. Sometimes the last word is not nice or kind, but it is too late for the person who it is aimed at to address it.
But, it is possible that a poster may in hindsight wish they had not said or responded a certain way. Maybe Jesus has convicted them and they realize they were wrong or out of line. Maybe they had a bad day, or just needed to vent.
I suppose they could just send a private apology to the person, but I think it would be nice if us members could read them. Maybe we were part of the unkindness of a thread, or maybe it will help us to behave in a more Christ like manner (meek, lowly and humble).
I would just have a few rules: You could not say things like "I'm sorry you feel that way or I'm sorry you took offense, or anything along those lines. Just state the members name, the thread (or have it linked somehow), and offer a sincere heartfelt apology for what was either said or implied. Don't have it be a thread for people to respond to the apology. Just simply a thread for people to post their apologies. And it would be for members only of course.
I think this would do a lot for people who for whatever reason have taking a beating just by offering their stories, opinions or views. I realize a lot of times people don't feel they should apologize and don't really care if they have caused someone hurt feelings, but some do. And it would really help when a thread is closed on a sour note.
I think after people vent or climb down off their soap box or find at least one other member to esteem them, they may re-think or re-read their posts and not feel so good after-all.
Anyway, I don't know how you would go about implementing such a forum or if it would just make for more work for the moderators but I think it might be worth it.
After we are Raptured, non-believers are going to come to this website looking for answers. On some of the forums they are going to see some Christians who were not behaving very Christ-like. Being sarcastic, using all caps to "Yell" at the person, nasty disagreements, etc. Maybe some threads have been deleted, but some that remain take on a very bad tone. Closing a thread may prevent people from continuing on, but it sure would be nice to find some threads of Christians doing the very thing they tell others to do...Repent!
So, I do hope you will take it under suggestion. Maybe figure out a way to add it. Maybe beta test it and if the interest is not there or people use it for the wrong reasons, then close it. But at least give it a try.
Thanks.
