After lurking for a year or 2 I finally decided to join RR.
Being as I visit daily and may want to post something eventually.
You all have been an encouragment and helped me find my way back to God
from a backsliden state..and yall didnt even know it...:wave
Well a little about me, I am male age 43, happliy married and we have 3 daughters.
We live near Fort Worth, Texas. I was saved at age 10 but lived a rebellious life for the most part.:doh
In the last months The Lord my God has had mercy on me and softened my heart, drawing me back to Himself. He has set me free from being a long term pot head and internet porn addict...along with the depression both of those brought.
I am trying to give up smoking cigs once again with His help.
Starving the flesh and feeding the spirit...thus my nickname. "no to flesh".
We were at a dead church with doctrinal problems (in our opinion) and The Lord answered a prayer by a dream to move on and we are very excited about where he has led us and what the future holds.
We will soon join this church and likely spend our lives there.
God Bless you all.:hug
May The Lord have mercy on me, a sinner.

Yes Patti, this board is a great blessing.
I have decided before ever joining to be on my best behavior here.
To me, its much more than just another internet forum.
Its a ministry imo..it has ministered to me.
:hug
God Bless you sister.
It was interesting how my dream came about.
My wife and I discussed things we felt were not right about our church and how we were not getting fed any meat until about midnight.
Before going to sleep I asked God to show me whether we should leave or not, a dream or however He chose.
(acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths)
To be honest my prayers seemed to bounce off the ceiling for so long I
feared I wouldnt get an answer. But somehow this was different, my wife and I had rarely talked seriously about our spiritual future together..especially in such detail.
My strange dream consisted of working in some sort of tunnel in a nuclear power plant. It was risky and the main risk was of very loud noise that would burst your eardrums or even kill you. The noise happened and I vacated the tunnel shook up but ok. I hitched a ride with the foreman who drove very fast
to exit the area. So fast I remember asking him to slow dow nfor fear of wrecking, but he wouldnt.
Finally we reached a valley, i remember the red warning lights on the perimeter turning green meaning we were in a safe place. There were other people there in this valley.
I felt a sad sense of dread that the nuke plant was having a meltdown and that people perished, but I was relieved to be safe.
The gist of the dream was to get away from the terrible noise for our safety it seemed, to leave to another place.
Now I rarely remember dreams and know noise isnt a risk at a nuke plant, and have never had such a dream as this.
When I woke up I happily told my wife that it seems I got an answer to my prayers, that the theme of my dream was to leave where I was at. I told her all the details.
She got this strange look on her face and said "well listen to this"...yesterday at (our previous) church they had a very bad problem with the sound system. It was so loud that our daughter covered her ears. Twice. It literally made you want to leave to get away from it."
!!!
:shocked
I work weekends and was not there to even know that.
It blew me away to have my prayer answered, and with that sort of confirmation.
Some might think it was a coincidence but we know better.
So we didnt go back to the old church and are going to a church now with a preacher that is not at all afraid to preach the truth, in love. The church is on fire. Peoples lives are getting changed.
Actually he is the same preacher I had as a kid and who is responsible for leading most of my family to The Lord. We will join soon.:yeah

Welcome
Not sure about the last part of your quote though? May the Lord have mercy on me, a sinner?
I think you need a reminder of who you are: NOT a poor sinner
BUT a child of the KING!! THE KING OF ALL KINGS!! Creator of EVERYTHING,
Your Loved more then your brain can understand, your value is limitless, you where chosen before time started, and the Holy Spirit is transforming you daily into the likeness of Jesus.
A sinner is what you where before you where saved,
A CHILD OF THE KING, is who you are now.
The Salvation is instant, but our Christian walk is a process.
Happy to welcome you here...Brother.

Thanks for the encouraging words Stinker. :)
Indeed I am both a child of The King, AND a sinner saved by grace.
When I get to heaven I can shed the reality that I am but a sinner
whom The Lord showed mercy on. Meanwhile its my hedge against pride.
But your right, I am a child of The King and thank you for the reminder.
I just woke up and while sipping my coffee thats a very happy thought.:yeah
Luke 18:12-14 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Glad to see you heading in the right direction.
Tips for smoking cessation(any addiction):
Get a mentor, Accountibality Partner, to encourage, keep you on track.
Dip cigs in tobasco, vinegar... what ever is disscusting to you, the idea is to make smoking(habit) abhorent to you.
PRAY! God can do it! (pray with wife, kids)Be careful if issues are too mature.
Avoid places, situations, old friends - you must quit first and become strong in the Lord before - ministering to others (Pride can trip you fast here)
And be encouraged, many of us have and will go through the dark valleys the Lord has appointed for us "to conform us to His Likeness"
