Hours after IDF troops and tanks entered the Gaza Strip, Palestinian terrorists continued bombarding southern Israel, firing some 25 rockets and mortar shells at the western Negev on Sunday morning.

One woman was lightly wounded and four others were treated for shock when a Kassam rocket hit her home in Sderot. This was the only rocket on Sunday to land in a residential area.

Two other people were wounded by shrapnel after a Kassam rocket landed near them in an open field in the Sha'ar Hanegev region.

The rest of the rockets and mortar shells landed in open fields in various western Negev regions causing no casualties or damage.

50 rockets fired, 4 Israelis lightly hurt


Gaza militants shot 50 rockets into Israel on Sunday, a day after Israel launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip aimed at stemming the cross-border rocket fire.

Two rockets struck the Eshkol region, leaving two people lightly wounded.

At least seven rockets struck Sderot on Sunday, lightly wounding one woman. Another rocket hit a house in the western Negev town, leaving four suffering from shock.

Meanwhile, a Grad rocket fired from Gaza struck Ashdod. One woman suffered light wounds from smoke inhalation.

A rocket fired on Saturday scored a direct hit on a house in Netivot, causing the structure to completely collapse. The resident of the house sustained minor shrapnel wounds to her legs in the attack.

Late on Sunday afternoon a rocket struck in the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council area, while two Grad rockets hit Netivot. Four rockets stuck the Eshkol area. An additional nine rockets also hit the Sderot area.

2 IDF soldiers lightly wounded


Two IDF soldiers were lightly wounded in clashes with Hamas gunmen in the Gaza Strip Sunday evening.

The two were taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon for treatment.

Golani soldier foils kidnapping


A Golani soldier managed to single-handedly foil an attempt to kidnap him during nocturnal operations in the Gaza Strip overnight Sunday, Israel Radio reported.

Soldiers from the IDF's Golani infantry brigade were fighting in the northern part of the Gaza Strip when they entered a house on which they had previous intelligence indicating that it was used as a Hamas command center.

Upon entering the house, the soldiers discovered entrances to several tunnels, which the Hamas terrorists holed up in the house had used to escape underground to neighboring houses. According to the report, the terrorists were shooting into the building when the soldiers entered.

One of the soldiers reportedly followed the gunmen into a tunnel and managed to contain several Hamas fighters in an underground firefight, before teaming up with his comrades again. Two IAF helicopters were scrambled to support the infantrymen, Israel Radio said.
