2 Jehovah Witness ladies came to our door this morning and were talking to my wife about the importance of Mary:scratch. I didn't know the JWs were that much into Mary? Anyway, I went to the door and talked to them and told them I knew about their beliefs and that I had my own beliefs which differed from their beliefs. I was very friendly and accomadating and just told them that I would be trying to prove my point , while they tried to prove theirs. They thanked me for not shunning them and went on their way. I kinda felt guilty because I didn't witness to them, but my wife seemed to think I did the best thing, because I usually end up arguing, anyway.:idunno I was just curious about why they were pushing Mary so much? They were saying the focus is always on Jesus and we need to focus on Mary. :thinking it just puzzled me. I did pray for their salvation. Has anyone heard of JWs putting so much emphasis on Mary?

i didn't know they did. not like i'm a JW expert or anything, but i never got the impression that Mary meant anything super important to them... interesting- especially if this is a new direction for them.

Exactly, it wouldn't phase me if they were Catholic, but JWs pushing Mary kinda caught me off guard:shocked

I think the safest way to deal with JWs is to direct the conversation to the deity of Jesus. If they won't admit to his deity, or agree to have a discussion whereby you can prove that he is God, then politely refuse to discuss anything further with them.

Lots of blending of religions going on....Maryology seems to be popular these days....hmmmm....can anyone say "One World Religion?"

Weird... one entire side of my family are J.W's and I've never heard them even say mary.

Yeah, I guess its that blending mentioned by His Bride. With such a wishy-washy cult though, it doesn't suprise me. They will change fundamental truths to them that are a big reason they stand out in the drop of a coin if needed to embrace a new idea the Kingdom Hall "elders" feel is correct :\

I think that they were using the subject of Mary as a conversation starter. It's a way to try to make an identification with whomever they are speaking to. If the person answering the door was Protestant & said that Mary was chosen by God for her faithfulness, but she wasn't 'The Mother of God', they would say something similar & then use the 'window of opportunity' to ask why Protestants believe Jesus IS God then. If the person answering the door was Catholic, their tatic would change slightly...but the end result would be the same (telling the listener that the Trinity is untrue).

Since JWs do not believe in the Trinity, they also do not believe that Jesus is God in the flesh. They add the word "other" four times to Colossians 1:16,17, teaching that Christ was God's first creation, i.e., the reincarnation of Michael the archangel created by Jehovah, rather than the Creator. [The "Watchtower" teaches that Jehovah God created Michael the Archangel before the foundation of the world; Michael was His only begotten son by virtue of the fact that he was the only creature directly created by Jehovah. It was this created Michael who became the JW Jesus (i.e., a denial of the eternality of Christ). JWs say that "Since actual conception took place, it appears that Jehovah God caused an ovum or egg in Mary's womb to become fertile, accomplishing this by the transfer of the life of his first born son (Michael) from the spirit realm to the earth" (Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 920). "Marvelously, Jehovah transferred the life-force and the personality pattern of his first born heavenly son (Michael) to the womb of Mary. God's own active force, his holy spirit, safeguarded the development of the child in Mary's womb so that what was born was a perfect human" (Reasoning, p. 255).] JWs also add an "a" in John 1:1, making the verse read, "the Word was a god" (which in essence, makes the JWs guilty of the same polytheism of which they accuse Trinitarians).

Been there done that -many times:nod. I just decided not to go through the motions this time because I knew where it was going to end up and I tend to get a little argumentative when they don't see it my way. I'm still learning patience BIG time:lol2.
