Does it appear to anyone else that there have been more and more stories of popular icons "falling from grace?" If so, do you think it is God reminding us that we should have no god but God? Think about it, and this is not an exhaustive list, but it covers so many categories of popular culture that it seems like most people should relate to at least one celebrity that has had a very public fall.

Britney Spears -hair, rehab etc
Linsey Lohan - rehab
Don Imus - bigmouth, racist
Isaiah Williams (i think that's his name) - antigay slurs/fired from Grey's Anatomy
Chris Benoit-roid rage? murder suicide
President Bush - low approval ratings, down dramatically from high ones in 2001-2003
Kobe Bryant rape allegations
Tom Cruise - labelled nutty (although that could change if he's still alive during the tribulation)

Sorry if I was incorrect in any of this list.

And I'm not naive that celebrities are people too, and that they make mistakes like everyone else, but it seems like there hass been a dramatic surge in the number of cases like these.

I've been thinking about this since my own celeb hero disappointed me. I really enjoy Bill O'Reilly, and I thought we were on the same page on almost everything, so he was someone I really looked up to. After reading Who's Looking Out For You? I realized that he was "Christian" in name only (at least that's the sense I get when someone goes to church yet doesn't agree with scripture) And I came away with this sense of "Men will always let you down, but Jesus never does"

So this has been really long-winded, and I apologize for that, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience or any other thoughts on the subject. Thanks!

It's not just celebrities either, I've noticed it in people I've known for years are doing things I'd never have thought possible for them. I thought maybe I was just expecting to much or that I'd changed and become more critical, but I've got friends going thru the same thing. I really think we are being seperated, the wheat from the tares.

OH you just made me think of two things to add, thanks tigger!

Jimmy Carter siding against Isreal after being hte first evangelical president (correct?)

President Bush (again) submitting to prayers from other religions

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson seperating from his wife. I used to have a lot of respect for the man until I heard that.

Not to mention Mel Gibson and certain influential pastors.

I look for this to increase even more especially among those who publically claim to be Christian. Satan's troops are attacking those people with great ferocity and some unfortunately will probably fall. We can only pray for their eventual restoration thru God's grace.

I still like Mel though. I just think he made some mistakes while drinking.

I have to agree with the statements about Bill O'Reilly...I listen to him quite a bit on talk radio and I agree with much of his conservative views...however he did mention on his show that he did not believe the Bible was a part of history or the truth...but rather lessons in life. I was a little let down. Sorry to get sidetracked.

also you know what ive noticed? that the people i grew up in church with that went every sunday and that were really into it and were holy, are now becoming more worldy.and the ones who rebelled in their teenage years and went the opposite way are the ones who are holy and seeking the Lord..its like a shift is occuring..very strange indeed...
