View Full Version : La Palma Volcano Mega Tsunami Threat

This may be old news to some, but I recently saw a program on the threat of a Mega-Tsunami that would be created by the collapse of the western slope of a volcano located in the La Palma in the Canary Islands. Apparently the volcano has embedded aquifers that when heated cause expansive forces to develop inside the volcano weakening its' struture. Evidence of previous movement of the western slope has already been recorded by scientists. It was said that the wave height created by the complete collapse of the western slope could cause a wave height in excess of 300 ft. In addition this type of wave has a very long wavelength and would travel a long distance even after it hits the shore line. This event could potentially wipe out the entire shoreline of the east coast of the United States. Here is a link with more info....

Hi Jack,
This is just a theory, but if a huge earthquake happened and shook the whole earth, it may also set off this island. From the articles I have read on Las Palmos, the next eruption could also set it off, or a good earthquake on the island. We see a huge earthquake during the sixth seal:
Revelation 6:
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
We also see a huge earthquake in the Magog war, which I think could be the same one:
Ezekiel 38:
18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
The earthquake in these descriptions might be able to set off Las Palmos and maybe the Hawiian one as well that is also slipping into the ocean. The earthquake would be bad enough, but to have super tsunamis as well would be horrendous. We may even see an analogy of this possible outcome in the second trumpet:
Revelation 8:
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
All an Island is is a huge mountain in the sea, so this could possibly be explaining a volcanic island (great mountain burning with fire) being cast into the sea.
Love,
Bruce

Bruce, I agree that it is highly possible that the earthquakes described in these sections of scripture could also result in increased volcanic activity (resulting the the La Palma slope failure). This combined with an eruption of the Yellowstone caldera would basically be lights out for the United States. Some wonder why the U.S. is not specifically mentioned in prophectic scripture, perhaps it is because for all intents it is no longer around (or at least nothing like it used to be).

:agree Why, even Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins mention this earthquake in one of their Left Behind book series as well too. Infact, it is suppose to happen during the first half of the Tribulation Period.

OK, this is sooo freaky, I had never heard of this La Palma tsunami thing, but I read this thread and then I went back to aol and read my google news, and on my personalized news page was this REALLY weird link:
I know I got it from Google but it's not a reliable news source, it's a very strange prophesy for the US east coast..
second edit:
OK, I went to the website and read it, and they are insane, claiming that Paul was a false apostle. So I'm erasing the link. No wonder Google linked to it. It's not news but it's not Christian either.

This was also on a History Channel program a year or so ago. I think it's called "Road to Armageddon". They discuss the verse in Revelation about the mountain falling into the sea and then detail the geological issues around La Palma, simulating the effect of the island cracking apart and falling in. It would create a large tsunami that would indeed damage the eastern seaboard of the U.S.

They're debunking the Horizon project's claims, the story that I put credence in was the BBC documentary, but it says that it would be triggered by an eruption, the eruptions happen 200 years apart, and the last one was 1949, so it's not an immediate threat. However, if God wants it to happen, if it fits His plans or prophecies, then it will happen regardless. Under normal circumstances, it doesn't seem like an immediate threat.
