A friend of mine told me he was planning to do an internship at International House of Prayer (Mike Bickle) and I told him to be careful, that I had heard he was part of the Kingdom Now stuff. But go to the IHOP website and look under "beliefs and controversies". They address this very thing and specifically refute the Kingdom Now, Latter Rain, Joel's Army, etc doctrines. Check it out.

having a different view of the end times does not make a group a cult. Doctrinal error does not equal cult. I don't like Kingdom Now theology but I wouldn't call it a cult, either.

I agree. Latter Rain Movement has some very heretical teachings, but does not deviate from the essential view of how salvation is obtained. Jesus Christ is still the only way to God within their SOF.

HOWEVER....

They are teaching some nutty stuff, and some very dangerous doctrines of Replacement Theology, Extreme Dominion/Kingdom Now stuff and I do not put it past some of the founders being wolves and false shepherds. As in any large group like this however, there are many marked for destruction, but there are more that will just come with us when the Trumpet sounds and we will hug them around the throne and sing the same song. They may just have a few more tears for Jesus to wipe away then some.

I say stay far from them, but be discerning and knowledgable to lead others from their error if God puts them in your path. :)

I also had a friend who got sucked into this place ... from the get go it seems ok, very into the five fold ministry, and they have a worship room to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to one another...

living a lifestyle of prayer and fasting ... taking the sayings of Jesus and doing them.... Matt 5 6 and 7

For those of us who are not being fed properly from our churches, and are really hungry for the word of God (to the point of obesity lol) it would seem like a great place to go to get more teachings from other brothers and sisters who love God but as I dove deeper into this place I realized some things that are just out of wack ... one, their extreme over usage of the bridegroom paradigm ... ie teaching we are the bride which is true, but then some really nutty teachings on the Song of Solomon, how God will declare the end from the beginning, and how in the beginning God had a garden in His heart and He wanted a bride .... it gets even weirder, I would pray that you try to show with absolute LOVE only that we need to follow the Bible ultimately and only the Bible.... They do not believe in the rapture, and they believe that only the good enough saints will be here on earth for Jesus when His millenial Kingdom comenses.

The people at Ihop are spiritual fat cats so to speak, they have a lot of head knowledge of the Bible and the word of God and they are notorious for taking it all out of context :gaah this is what had me shivering in a bathtub @ 3am not too long ago....

But remember the true sheep of Jesus will follow only Him, they will by no means follow a stranger, Jesus said in John 10:5 that they His sheep will run from a stranger.

Pray for this friend of yours, please pray for mine as well, his name is Rob and I love this young man deeply, but hes greviously erring.... hes running himself physically and spiritually into the ground. Even the difference in his eyes from six months ago until now, its death all over him, its so sad

Anyone who gets sucked into this cult will... They think because we 'speak evil of them' they are to "rejoice and be exceedingly glad for joy because great is their reward in heaven."

Also here is an excellent post from a guy who went to IHop to visit and didn't have any preconceived notions other than not so hot love for relgious people .... http://forum.rickross.com/viewtopic.php?t=2796&sid=7b7a6050404775ef1adcbd28ef5c817f

Jelaine, Oh how I know what you mean when you speak of spiritual death. Believe me, it can happen in many different church settings, not just cults. (I understand your point however, and I am joining with you in prayer for Rob.)

LOL, me too...

When I saw the first post, I was thinking, really we've gone overboard now, what's wrong with IHOP?? :doh

Making me hungry for stuffed french toast, though... :nod

In all seriousness, this sounds like a very misguided group. They're certainly not the only ones to believe in Kingdom Now theology, but some of the quotes and teachings I read on this thread are EXTREMELY questionable.

Their teachings are...unorthodox, to say the least. Here is one quote from Mike Bickle, the person originally asked about:

''God intends us to be like gods, he intends us to be like the Son of God. ... God has conceived in His heart of a plan to make a race of men that would live like gods on the Earth. He has conceived in His heart to have Sons that would live like His Son, the Lord Jesus lived... That we were to be on earth the extension and manifestation of God's life in heaven.''

I believe that was God's original plan for the Garden of Eden. While we are in these mortal, sin-prone bodies we will never fully return to that state, but in the fulness of time we will.

Mat 17:20
"verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed,
ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place;
and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

I believe this will be our state in the new earth to come.

Even so, we should not limit God in the here-and-now ... He is just as capable of doing miracles now as when He walked the earth 2000 years ago.

BTW, I think that is what Mike Bickle and IHOP are saying too ... check out their beliefs on their website
