:tinfoil {whispers} this is my tin foil idea :shifty there is something in the converters that "Big Brothers" us - it is already arranged with the places we buy our converters from...:spy some dweeb is sitting in a room somewhere:todd in the pentagon collecting all our subversive dealings (i.e. playing with belly button lint, dumping our kool aid down the drain, etc) and when we least expect it the big man himself will come in and apprehend us! mwhaahaa :cylon
So ends another shed worthy adventure - until next time.... stay tuned! :tinfoil

Tell me what a converter box does. Do I still get reg channels? I am absolutely certain that this delay of change is not in our best interest.

Converts to digital reception. You should get most of what's out there.

I believe we should all get 52 inch flat screen TV's for our trouble! That would just about solve our problems! :dohI should have run for president! :hat
its funny you say that orginal this is what was to happen. The FCC when they were asking for the digtal switch over they ask to have enough money for people to actually get voucher to use to get HDTV. But then the government said that was to much money to give out. And now they have run out of money. Our government just does not think ahead. Man if they had given out credit towards a HDTV it would have been better. I think standard size was credit towards a 27 inch is what everyone would have gotten and it is one tv not mutiple tvs

My DH, who is a professional computer/electronics "geek", and a close friend who is retired from doing some pretty secret security stuff for the army, both say that with all-digital service, the technology could easily be set up for someone to have 24/7 access into our homes. The ex-army man says it could be easily used for eavesdropping, etc.

Anyone here think that good ol' BO and our soon-to-be socialist government might like to have such access? :tsk Think about it - why else would this be mandated by the government? Since when do they care about the "quality of our T.V. signal" ? The only logical explanation is that something else is on their agenda. :panic Not trying to be "tin-hattish" here, but just sayin'................

That is very interesting to me, because I've spoken with two retired army Computer geeks who told me something very similar less than a month ago.

One of them told me a few things that I needed to add to my emergency supplies as soon as possible. The #1 item he said I should get (or have my husband build) was a faraday cage. :shocked

Okay, I wonder how many people actually will need one of these tuners. Here is a guide line:

Yeah, you know there is money making involved. I just wonder how many people end up buying a digital tuner, when they don't need one.:idunno

If you still watch a TV with rabbit ears, chances are you probably don't have a TV to really watch shows, just for emergencies, so why is the government so concerned about this??

What's a faraday cage?

It's a mesh grid that shields wires/electronics from spurrious radiation or magnetic fields.

That does sound a little like a tin hattish? Are there any ex CIA, etc, who know if this is really needed or just a scare?

I'm sorry folks, I hate to say this but Obama is right. There is insufficeint support for our transition to digital. As a matter of fact,
