Can you give more information: What type of pc, OS installed, distance between computers? Are you accessing the internet with one pc currently (which appears you are).

Wow, I don't know all the answers:
So here goes with what I do know.
* I have one Gateway - running Windows XL
* One Compaq - running Windows XL
* Do not know what a OS is: So must not have.
* Distance between computers - 20 - 40 feet
* Accessing the internet with one pc currently (Gateway).
What is a "hub - SO must not have one of those.
I would really like to get both working and could use your help.

The OS is the current Operating System for the computer, ie Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP. For starters, take a look at the following URL's:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wired.mspx
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813936 (Windows XP Home Edition)
Give those links a look and let me know if you have any questions.

hubs are obsolete. purchase a switch instead. switches are dirt cheap. well not dirt cheap, but cheap.
if i were in your shoes, i would probably purchase something similar to this, which is something more extensive in features and functionality than a switch, but it would include the functionality of a switch:

there is a good chance that you could just plug everything in to a device like that, and it would work automatically without you setting anything up. if not, those devices usually have a pretty good control panel interface you can use.
if you're interested in wireless (like for laptops or equipped desktops) capability, you can get a similar device that includes wireless functionality.
this is all assuming you have cable or DSL (not dialup).
