God has called me to witness, so I wrote being a missionary, is it any good.
What exactly is a missionary? Webster defines a missionary as “a person undertaking a mission and especially a religious mission”. A missionary evangelizes, preaches, and helps people rebuild there lives physically and spiritually. Although being a missionary may be dangerous and costly the privilege and joy of sharing salvation with the lost out weighs the costs.
People wonder how you would evangelize someone to Christ. You just can’t preach the gospel to someone and expect them to accept it. Satan has set up a wall of ignorance, anger or defiance. With just small random acts of kindness, missionaries break down these walls. Once this wall is broken down, they begin to ask questions. Then the missionary will plant the seed and start the salvation process. A missionary wants to preach the gospel; the only satisfaction they want is someone to say they wish to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. The only qualification to be a missionary is the heart to serve. To be a missionary, you have to be knowledgeable about the Word of God and be involved in a church for over 5 years.
The cost of being a missionary overseas is to sacrifice everything for our Lord Jesus Christ. Missionaries leave everything behind, they trade a life of comfort for a life of poverty. They are given extremely low wages and aren’t paid much; missionaries have to pay their own way. Countries don’t want missionaries. They want doctors, nurses, engineers, people who can help their country. Preaching the word of God is just an addition, but to them it’s everything. If a missionary doesn’t have any of these qualities, they have to pair up with a missionary organization. An example of a missionary organization would be Baptist Missions to Forgotten People. This is a non-profit organization to spread the Word of God. One of the biggest problems with missionaries is entering a society that depicts Christian missionaries as evil.
Missionaries around the world are persecuted everyday, by heart hardened people. An organization that highlights these martyrs is an organization called Voice of the Martyrs. This is a non-profit, interdenominational organization with a vision for aiding Christians around the world who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. The dangers of being a missionary are great in restricted nations. Some nations such as North Korea, China, and India, don’t allow bibles into their country. The love for Jesus Christ is so great that missionaries, who preach in these restricted nations, will give their life for Jesus Christ. The founder of VOM, Richard Wurmbrand was tortured day and night. This mans faith was so great, that he would make worship songs out of the very chains he was bounded in. Hebrews 13:3 says “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.” We as Christians have to remember and pray for our brothers and sisters, who are temporarily bounded physically, but forever bounded spiritually by God.
Missionaries around the world cry out to God to deliver them from this evil, and to forgive those who wrong them. God surely hears them and tells them to lift up their heads, because their redemption draws near.
