View Full Version : The Shroud of Turin: Is it Authentic?

I plan on watching the show tonight and I have never felt that the shroud belonged to Jesus. So I have to disagree that it's idol worship. It's obviously someone, and to me it's just kind of neat to see how technology has advanced so they can do more testing on artifacts. That's all it is to me.
I just have trouble believing that the Lord would leave something around like that to prove Jesus' existence. We are to believe that He is and that He's a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. If there is something like the shroud still being in existence (if it truly did belong to the Lord) then that kind of makes it where we don't have to rely on our faith any longer. I hope that makes sense, I know what I'm trying to say. LOL
This kind of reminds me of people arguing about what Jesus looks like. Blue eyed and blonde, black, etc. But He is an Israeli... Revelation says his feet are like burnished bronze. So I would assume the brown eyes and olive complexion of most Israelis. I know I just can't wait to see my Lord and fall at His feet and tell Him Thank You Lord!

I watch programs like that all the time.
It does not make me worship it. I stick to what the Bible tells me.
Oh for sure, I completely agree, I would hope that ANY believer watching this will watch it with a guarded mind and heart. I think watching something like this would be more out of curiousity and interest rather than thinking it is truth. I'm going to watch it just to see what they say or how they try to claim it's real but my belief stands firmly on God's Word and nothing else, especially not some show on the History Channel :nope
Personally I don't think it's true, I don't think anyone can prove what Jesus looked like as fact and really it's not high priority on my "to do" list, I'm more into what He says to me in His Word then what He looked like. I enjoy watching these shows so I can pick out the lies...lol

I'm probably in the minority here, but I've always believed that the shroud was the real thing.
I read quite a bit about it, and I am mostly convinced.....the show tonight will be interesting imo.

I heard someone say SOMEWHERE..and it was just today or yesterday.
Was Jesus an albino??...Was Jesus an old white haired man???
Then the shroud is definately not real
We believe that Leonardo da Vinci painted a picture of himself on the Shroud...
R-I-G-H-T!!!! `
Whether it's Jesus or not...Unbelievers are not to be taken seriously..jmho...:)

If you look at the shroud and this verse,
Isaiah 52:14
14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him — his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness—
Are they the same?

I read an article many years ago that basically said a large piece of cloth from 2,000 years ago could not still exist intact -- it's scientifically impossible.
Besides, the RCC has taken charge of this "artifact" which cemented my skepticism. They have always been a bit too anxious to present Christ as dead on the cross. This shroud business casts the image of Him still dead in many unbelievers minds.
IMO we should be an example to the lost by walking away from this story. :nod

I put no trust in the shroud being the real thing.
We will see Jesus soon.

I'm not watching it because I think it's true, I'm watching it to see what lies I can pick up and will hold what is said under the light up scripture. If God wanted us to know what His Son looked like, I don't think it would have been such a big secret...as much as He's been able to keep His Word pure and true, He would have been able to keep a picture of His Son available for all believers to easily see. I like shows like this because I like to see what lies or deceit they are using to fool the masses with.

Thank you......
Being called an idol worshipper because you want to watch a historical program is ridiculous. Just because you show an interest in a historical artificat doesn't mean you are going to worship it.
I have seen people gush, go bananas and have more threads (pages and pages) over animals or chocolate than I have seen over the Shroud. To me that is showing a little bit more idolatry than watching a tv show. And that is just IMHO.
Please.
Oh and think the threads on doggies (especially little naughty Bostons) and chocolate are hilarious and fun.....I was just making a point....
OK so just to clarify and clear the air since I'm getting nasy pm's, here's my one response and that's the last I will say in this thread:
Who's calling anyone *here* an idol worshipper?
Referring to the context of the program and what it's about, I made the comment that I believe it's idolatry - meaning, to persue and speculate about whether or not this is the true image of Jesus. I didn't think the OP was doing that, only sharing information about the program.
I think it's a relic that Satan is using to get foolish people to stop focusing on the real Jesus, and back to idolatry, just IMHO
I stand by what I said here. The Catholic church treats the shroud of turin like a holy object, which it is not. It's a curiosity, nothing more. Yet millions of people idolize it because they think it has the imprint of Christ.
God Himself forbade us to make a graven image and worship it, so *IMHO* I don't believe it is Christ, and I don't believe it should be treated like a holy object.
Go ahead and watch the program, good grief, I'm not calling you an idolator if you do! It sounds interesting, if you want to watch for your own curiosity I really don't care one way or the other!
**And please stop sending me nasty pm's (not you, Texasgirl) accusing me of inferring things I didn't, because I won't respond to them.**
Over and out.
