I do still believe that this event is what helps vault the AC to world domination. The destruction OF Russia's armies, as well as the destruction of muslim forces would have a significant impact on the world's power structure as we know it today. And let's face it. Seeing Israel (as they would think) destroying these armies in such a way might convince the rest of the world that peace is a pretty good thing to have with Israel.

Why won't the Psalm83/Isaiah17 war have the same result of ushering in the antichrist? After all, the continued efforts to form a peace agreement, which I believe will be the main goal of the antichrist's covenant, have been with Israel and her neighbors.....not Russia and the rest of the Gog/Magog alliance or the rest of the world....though the rest of the world is adimant to see that peace happen. Just think about the push for peace that will happen after Israel uses nukes!

Israel will be gaining a lot of land after Psalm83/Isaiah17, but the Bible tells us that the antichrist will divide the land for gain. Nothing new under the sun. :ohno And this could all be part of the covenant.

This is why I see the covenant being confirmed after the fall out from the war with Israel and her immediate neighbors and Gog/Magog fulfilling the Seal Judgments. God will be putting the hook in Gog's jaw and God has and will use men to carry out His judgments.

Some have said that the covenant is tied to the Temple and that is why it has to be after Gog/Magog. The Bible isn't clear on this issue but I don't see why not after Psalm83/Isaiah17, especially since it says in Isaiah 17 that men will begin to look toward their Maker. For the Jews it might mean that they will start to try to follow the Law again and see the need for a temple. Then after Gog/Magog, if not already built, they will definately build that temple and nothing will stop them.

IMHO more like volcanic activity/plate tectonics of some sort to create the fire and brimstone.

I thought the fire and brim stone was from nuclear weapons?

After reading one of the threads here, I was just compelled to google "gog magog" to see what's being said - since we know wikipedia can be edited at will, I don't necessarily hold them to the highest of credibility...

Anywhoo - This is the first thing that comes up:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gog_and_Magog

The tradition of Gog and Magog (Hebrew גוג ומגוג; Arabic يأجوج و مأجوج) begins in the Hebrew Bible with the reference to Magog, son of Japheth, in the Book of Genesis and continues in cryptic prophecies in the Book of Ezekiel (see War of Ezekiel 38-39), which are echoed in the Book of Revelation and in the Qur'an. The tradition is very ambiguous with even the very nature of the entities differing between sources. They are variously presented as men, supernatural beings (giants or demons), national groups, or lands. Gog and Magog occur widely in mythology and folklore.

I just found this interesting: That they are variously presented as men, supernatural beings (giants or demons) I immediately thought of the Nephilim...but....in Ezekiel?

I've never heard of that :scratch

Thoughts...?

Yes I do believe that the eyes of the world will be open, they may not be opened unto the truth of the Gospel, but they will know that the destruction is from the Lord. In fact the Lord addresses that directly.

"Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I [am] the LORD." Ezekiel 38:23

"And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD." Ezekiel 39:6

"And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them." Ezekiel 39:21

"And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. Ezekiel 39:23

I had always thought that there was a good chance for the destruction of Damascus according to Isaiah 17 happening before the Gog/Magog war as Syria is not mentioned as an ally in Ezekiel 38 and Ezekiel 39. Before I retired I used to tell my unbelieving workmates to start believing when they see Damascus disappear off the face of the planet!!

Thanks Ironguild for the PERFECT scripture! Thats the point I was trying to make! I know the Lord wants as many as possible to be saved BEFORE the Rapture!! And what a perfect way to show everyone that He is here for us! Could an unbeliever see such an event and just fluff it off as nothing?

I thought the fire and brim stone was from nuclear weapons?

It's all just speculation at this point.

However, I do find this interesting:

Ezekial 38:19-22 tells of a great earthquake and God sending rain, fire
and brimstone upon the invading army on the mountains of Israel.

At the northeastern corner is an inactive chain of volcanic cones.

Inactive volcanoes go active = earthquakes, fire, brimstone, acid rain and hail.

God's Word is what saves people. While the world happenings have led some to see Him most of the time it has no lasting value. God gave us the Bible which is the way He operates today. In fact, in the Book of Revelation, every time God unleashes His fury, men do not repent, but curse God.
