I am looking for books for my Grandchildren.
First I am looking for G.A.Henty books. And second my eldest Granddaughter is 10, she said she likes adventure or action books. She already read Little House and all horse books. Anyother recommendations?
Thanks

What about the old Nancy Drew books? There are new ones out but don't be fooled. They are NOT the old stories with a new cover.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe series is good.

My 11 and 8 year old daughters really like the Elsie Dinsmore books. They had a big selection at the Christian bookstore. The books are old fashioned, but my girls love them--kind of a surprise to me. I had trouble reading one aloud, because it made me cry! Elsie really tries to follow Jesus, and it's not easy for her!

Redwall series are good.

Narnia

Actually if you check out your local library, you may find a lot of classic books being discarded bacause of the conusumer products lead ban initative. They are tossing lots of good children's books published before 1985.

You might try Christian author Frank Peretti's Cooper Kids series. A brother (14) and sister (13) go on adventures with their widowed archaeologist father around the world. There are 8 books, each around 125-160 pages long. I read them all to my daughter and we loved them--yes, I really enjoyed them, too!

-C.S Lewis
-Terry Pratchett has some good stuff for younger readers...might be slightly above a 10 year old but you could give it a go if she's more advanced for her age
-Paul Jennings, Morris Gleitzman, Roald Dahl etc
-You could look at the more complex picture books - Animal Farm, The Arrival, Feathers, and so on (sorry I can't remember authors, pretty sure the first one is Orwell)

If she likes horses how about Black Beauty. Where the red fern twines is another good one. Anne of Green Gables I think even girls like Tom Sawyer,
I did.

VERY good book series! Similar to the Hardy boys but tuned toward girls. Nothing like the classics! :nod(Do NOT get the "new" Nancy Drew books. Completely different author and are much worse.:sad)

There are some books written by Nancy Rue called the "Lilly" Series that my 10 year old loves. They are fiction but christian. I think there are 13 in the series.
