As some of you know, I have been going through a tough time with a lawsuit over being thrown out of our local mall because I use a Segway to get around (I am handicapped). I wrote about it in an article for RR called "Vengeance is Mine" where I talked about my decision to file suit and whether I was seeking vengeance or justice. Anyway, this past Friday we were in a summary jury trial which is used as a settlement device. You actually try your case to a 6 person jury and then the judge uses the verdict to try to get the parties to move on settlement discussions. During the trial, the opposing attorney pulled my article off of the Internet and tried to use it to somehow state that I was seeking vengeance against the mall. If she had read the whole article, she would know that it was quite the opposite. Be that as it may, as a result of her cross-examination, I got to tell the jury how I was a Christian lawyer, how I ended up writing this article, and what my beliefs meant to me. In the end, I got to proudly proclaim that I was a Christian and that I wrote for two Christian Internet sites. She even asked me the names of the sites so I got to tell all of these people about RaptureReady and RaptureAlert. It was great. I didn't back down once and I was not afraid of what these people might think of me. Opposing counsel spent more time on my article and my beliefs that anything else. Big mistake. May God have the glory! It was so exciting to speak out about my beliefs. I am really looking forward to the real trial when we can do this again if she is brave enough (or foolish) to bring it up. There is nothing like witnessing to others, including an attorney who is trying to trip you up.
