My 20 year old son is trying to save enough money for college, and he found a sales job during the summer. The company sent him and a several others to Salt Lake City for a training seminar. The driver of the car (they were carpooling) is a Mormon, and my son and the rest of the passengers peppered him with questions during the trip, which apparently the young man handled very well.

My son returned to his place after the seminar very impressed with his new friend.

My son is still new in the Christian faith, and unaware of the differences between Mormonism and Christianity.

He is not in any bible study for over a year and a half.

He is not interested in researching this on the internet, which is odd, because he does so love his computer.

My problem is: what books are there that would inform him and guide him away from Mormonism?

Edited to add: If I've put this in the wrong forum, please put it in the right forum. I think I got it right, but maybe not...

I'd recommend "Becoming Gods" by Richard Abanes - although I must warn you that it's *NOT* a light reading book.

Also "Kingdom of the Cults" by Walter Martin.

I have a friend who came out of Mormonism and is, and has been, witnessing to her family about it. Let me ask her what books she would recommend.

She did recommend this video (http://goodnewsforlds.org/video.html).

Annabelle, here's the reply I received on this.
These are books I have read and all are very good! I am familiar and/or know the authors as well and know their research is very reliable with the truth. (I personally know James Spencer and the Higley’s). I would get all three as they all have valuable information.

Thanks, all. I'm a little embarrassed :doh about how I phrased my problem, but I do feel that LDS is the wrong wall to put your ladder against, if you know what I mean. Hope I didn't offend any visitors/guests/members!

If anybody else has a suggestion, please let me know.

Very good to be concerned. I have two wonderfull DVD's the your son should view....."The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon" and "DNA vs. the Book of Mormon." They are Outstanding and very current. It is very important that he learns certain things about these very nice but lost and deceived people. If you would like to view these, please let me know and I'll make sure to get them to you for you and your Son. In the grip of His grace, Marty

Great resources from everyone. I'd also recommend viewing the following video as well.

Did your son read any of these books? Did he watch any of these DVD's? How is he doing now? Praying for him.

it's funny how non-lds books/articles/dvd's about mormonism have widely become more authoratative than from an lds standpoint. if i'm not mistaken, presbyterians set the guidelines for what they believe; baptists set the guidelines for what they believe. likewise, mormons set the guidelines for what they believe... perhaps other protestants interpret better what we actually believe??? hmm...
