One of the troubles of the Secret....is the book actually quotes some scripture. For a new Christian, or a nondiscerning one, thats as good as gold. Must be good if they are quoting the Bible. They package it up beautifully, put a few verses in there with everything else and will sell it to just about anyone. And yes, its very close to WOF teaching. Very, very close.

Agreed. Very deceptive stuff. Self-divination "My will be done" Same old new age lies that you are a god and you are in charge... command it, visualize it. They try to dress it up with some scripture but that turkey won't fly.

I just heard about it this last weekend.

It is spreading rapidly through the Evangelicals in the Chicago suburb area (is what some of that denomination's members told me) [Not that I am picking on them, but that is who I heard about it from --- I write some & I use a "Story-board" for keeping track of my characters & what they are doing. They saw the colored index cards in my writer's loft and got all excited until they realized it was for a current book. It was then, that they told me about the "Secret". Apparently, they too use colored index cards to keep track of???? --- not really sure to be honest --- some of you might know].

So -- looks like (from these posts) I owe my friends some research & advisement. I will check with those in my denomination too. It has been "silent" from my dealings within my church --- maybe a "secret"? I will get to it...

Thanx for the thread otherwise I wouldn't have thought much about it.

Humbly yours --- widowsmyte

Both my wife and I felt very grieved of the spirit, even before we knew much about The Secret. The Holy Spirit truly is our perfect and wonderful councilor. Our hope is that the church will wisen up to this apostacy. If not, I am afraid we may have to face the fact that the leadership in our church is more interested in fitting in with wordly thought then standing for the Truth of Jesus Christ.

I really am so sad for what you are going though. It is so difficult to be a part of a church that is blindly (hopefully) headed down a destructive path. Our churches are under a well planned, well carried out attack. It is painful to see it happening to your own church body.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Hey all:
How many of you are aware of the current New Age phenomena The Secret. Recently my wife and I found out that our church was going to offer a 4 week course viewing the movie and the companion book:confused: Not sure I understand who thought this was a good idea.:faint :
Our dilema is that we know the associate pastor who's ministry this falls under (being taught by a church member) very well. She is a very Godly woman. We are hoping that she is just un aware of what is in The Secret. We don't know what is the best way to approach this though, but we can't keep silent.

Maybe if you lovingly show them the truth and they reject the Holy Spirit, pray where God would have you to attend. Our flesh, my flesh is always comfortable where I am at now, but just this last Ressurection Sunday, I realized my pastor was not talking about the resurrection, instead he was teaching about sex, scandal, the jerry springer chapters of the Bible, David and Bathsheeba... (This was a Calvary Chapel btw) God told me to go, so I did, I went down the road and found a Baptist church and sure enough the pastor was teaching on the resurrection and God said "Your home"

2Peter 2 v1:....who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them...:gaah I had always wondered about that verse; and now I have seen the literal fulfillment of it in many places.:scripture

Denying can be not talking about which was the case for the pastor I was under, he didn't talk about Jesus Christ and Him crucified, that is denial, simply not speaking about it. Give your church the test. Spend one whole month is see how many times they mention the words "Hell, Sin, Damnation (never hear damnation anymore) Jesus Christ on the cross....etc

If your anything like me, you'll realize there are not too many places to call 'home' anymore :-(

'The Secret' is a total rip off of several other books. There are over 20 quotes in the book that are also in 'What the bleep do we know anyway'. Other quotes are taken from 'The power of focus', and yet others are from 'the power of the subconscious mind'.
I am actually shocked that no one has stood up and called this book what it is; A collection of stolen works.
I paid $16.86 for 'The Secret' at Wal Mart. I am still sort of ticked that the only secret revealed is that I was suckered out of $16.86.

Hey all:

My wife and I had a brief email exchange with the associate pastor who's ministry the teaching would have been under. It turns out she is totally aware of the apostacy of the Secret. This is a large main line denomination church so you have a lot of volunteers teaching courses, with the pastors not always knowing exactly what everybody is doing (I don't agree with this by the way).

The bad news is that she thinks it can be instructive to present the Secret in a way that helps people to see it's falacies. Sounds good so far. But she also says there is some good in it that shouldn't be ignored.:doh

Well, this is why it is bad news. My fear is that if you show the Secret to have some redeeming value, a lesser or weaker Christian will not get the message about the true nature of this movement. Poison coated in chocolate may be tasty, but it is still poison. That is what the Secret is. It is a candy coated poison.

Once it is in the church, it will lead some astray. I think people forget about the serious nature of the spiritual battle that has been going on since the fall of Man. There is a real devil, and he really wants to separate us from God. It's not about who's doctrine is better. It's about letting a wolf into the sheep pen. Someone who is deceived by the Secret and denies Christ stands a good chance of never accepting his plan of salvation and dying in their sins. Don't people understand how unspeakably horrible that end is?:fear

I think we should be aware of these popular trends in our culture, but I think they should be handled instructively and decisively by the church, not as a course or program that talks about the good and the bad. If it doesn't honor God, it is all bad:pray

Praying for those who are exposed to The Secret.

i totally agree with you.

satan always mixes in just enough truth to make his lies palatable.
why take the chance of having to test every single word in something if you know that it is essentially trash?
i feel the same way about people who gush about joyce meyer and say, well i know she has some messed up doctrines, but her books have helped me!
dangerous dangerous ground.

i think you should tell your pastor exactly what you posted here about the less mature christians being put in danger. if he doesn't listen, i would consider finding a more discerning church.
