Well, this is why it is bad news. My fear is that if you show the Secret to have some redeeming value, a lesser or weaker Christian will not get the message about the true nature of this movement. Poison coated in chocolate may be tasty, but it is still poison. That is what the Secret is. It is a candy coated poison.
You're exactly right. This is DECEPTION.. just like Emergent, PDL, Contemplative etc..
sure you're not ay MY (X) church???
Hey I heard Osteen was used in the elementary Sunday school also! (Southern Baptist Convention)

The secret looks like a watered down version of what occultist David Icke is teaching.
And while David Icke has some interesting things to say, he's also full of baloney.
He practically says that there are humans, aliens and human/alien hybrids [that are mostly powerful humans on earth] called reptilians and that the aliens and reptilians feed on the negative energy of humans.
He says that all of existence is one big whatever it is and somehow fear and loneliness snuck into this existence and that it fractured/split into many pieces, which would be the souls of humans and aliens and more...
And that now these aliens keep us and themselves from rejoining the big IS by keeping us in a matrix designed to trap us and drain us of our positive feelings and increase our negative feelings so they can feed.
According to him we can free ourselves from this slavery by realizing that it's just fake and that the reptilians and aliens only have the power we give them.
Interesting thing is that while this cunning man is so wrong in many points, some of his points do hold some truth in them.
If the man had come up with this by himself, he'd have some more credibility, but he describes a spirit journey, where he talked to a female spiritual being, which told him many of the things i typed here, especially the cosmic mumbo jumbo. :willie
So our hero David had a demonic visitation with demonic revelation. :gaah
I will just say that the secret and similar stuff may open up people for the junk David Icke and others with similar ideas are putting out. :hehee

I live in Texas (the Bible belt). I have been here since 1982 and have watched all kinds of deception come into the church. From what I see if the name of Jesus is on it, it sells. Its very difficult to find a biblically sound church. I drove by a church a couple years ago and on their billboard they were advertising a new show coming on TV called Revelation and were encouraging people to watch it. I watched one episode to see what it was about. It had nothing whatsoever to do with Christianity. The show was absolutely horrible and I was glad it was finally cancelled. In the last few years I have seen two major deceptions come into most churches and they were readily accepted. I was so shocked that no one was catching on and then I realized it was all because Christ's name was slapped on it. Because of this I have often asked myself...If the Antichrist suddenly came on the scene would we recognize him? If we are not abiding IN CHRIST, we are going to be in big trouble. If we go around saying that we have been walking with Christ for 10, 20, 30 years etc. we are in big trouble. To be safe we must walk IN HIM not with Him. There is a big difference.

Denying can be not talking about which was the case for the pastor I was under, he didn't talk about Jesus Christ and Him crucified, that is denial, simply not speaking about it. Give your church the test. Spend one whole month is see how many times they mention the words "Hell, Sin, Damnation (never hear damnation anymore) Jesus Christ on the cross....etc
If your anything like me, you'll realize there are not too many places to call 'home' anymore :-(
I have also found this to be true. I left my seeker sensitive, (emergent) Church for a small traditional Baptist Church. It was difficult to find a Church that preached the Word of God plainly. Biblically sound Churches are on the narrow path. This is prophesied in the Word of God. A falling away.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
This is why many of us continue to speak against the emergent Church movement. We continue to receive grief from those that choose entertainment over Biblically sound teaching that edifies the body. We must warn others. Don't be a part of this falling away, this apostasy!

Here is the radio show (http://www.olivetreeviews.org/radio/mp3/OTM2007_04_14A.mp3) that Jan Markell did on this subject. The guest on the show is T.A. McMahon (the executive director of Dave Hunt's ministry, which is The Berean Call), and I think it is worth checking out. That link that I posted will download an MP3 file.

For dial-up users, here is the low bandwidth Real Audio version. (http://www.olivetreeviews.org/radio/mp3/OTM2007_04_14A.rm)
Also, a DVD expose about The Secret is soon going to be available. It will be titled The Secret's Dirty Little Secret. (http://www.goodfight.org/thesecret/)
The DVD is not available yet, but you can pre-order it through that link. It is produced by the same ministry who also did a well known documentary called They Sold Their Souls For Rock N Roll. I have some disagreements with some of the theology that is taught by their ministry (like the post-trib rapture theology), but I think that they have some very eye-opening exposes on occult issues. I have already pre-ordered their DVD about The Secret, because I am curious to hear what they have to say on this subject.

Here is another radio show about The Secret: Has The Secret To Happiness Been Discovered? By Dave Hunt and T.A. McMahon. (http://www.thebereancall.net/audio/2007/1707c.mp3)

This one is short but good.

The sad thing with many spiritual-seeking people in this world, is that they won't take time to read the Bible (the most famous book in the world, and one that everyone knows involves matters spiritual) , but they will run out and read "The DaVinci Code" or "The Secret."
It makes you wonder if people stop and think? I realize their are many established false religions in this world that deceive people, but for this to happen on something like "The Secret" is suprising. From just a basic, logical point of view, do people really think that all these long ages & ages have passed on this earth, and somehow all the people that lived before them have missed out on true spiritual revelation? But now, all of a sudden, they are somehow advantaged hearing the "real truth" in a small, cute little book packaged & published in 2007? And, this book is not a free one offered in a church to the seeking soul (like the Bible), it is not a free book offered to the weary soul in a hotel room (like the Bible), it is a book you have to buy, and one the author is getting rich off of.
So, we have people forming a religious-like faith in a supposed, finally-discovered "truth" that is presented in a book that is making somebody on this planet one happy-and-wealthy individual? The way I see it, a nonbeliever (without discernment, or Christ's wisdom through His Holy Word) should be able to stop, and just logically think this book through, and see "The Secret" as something not to dare place your faith in, but simply something pulled out of an individual's head & heart, that is empty and hollow.

excellent point.
too bad those who need to see it won't...they're too busy reading the secret and looking up their horoscopes online or something.

A little lie mixed in with truth, renders the whole thing a lie. Too many people are too lazy or to busy to read the standard that all works will be judged by in the end. Too lazy or to busy to compare what they are reading to the one true Book. The Bible is the final authority, all other stuff must measure up, or be tossed aside into the dung hill and burned up.
