Hi everyone.....

My hubby and I have been praying about homeschooling our 5 children. We used to have a great smallish school district...with many God fearing teachers. We didn't have alot of reasons to homeschool our kids.

Lately.....our school has declined in the morality department. We have found out that 7 of our teachers(out of about 30) are having open affairs...(yes...they are all married..) with each other, or with someone in town. Nobody on the school board or administration seems too concerned....but even the kids in middle school know what is going on with who! They tell us "That is their personal life...blah blah blah"....but we can see it as a moral and spiritual decline of our small community of about 1300 people.

We have 17 days left of this school year...and I am seriously considering homeschooling. My kids are fine with that decision if it comes to that. Please pray for us.....that we would do Gods will.

Also, any advice while dealing with the school board and administration would be welcome!

Hi House of Light,

Praying for God's wisdom and guidance in your decision!

I do not know what state you are in but if you go to the HSLDA website, they have more information on what is required of homeschoolers.

Blessings!

Thank you, Waratah.

Our state (last month) passed a bill that states that you do not need oversight from the school district to homeschool...if you do not have education past grade 12.

Two of my very good friends also homeschool.......

I will look up the HSLDA website, though. Thanks!

Hi House of Light :wave

There are many reasons parents decide to home school. Bad influences at school, bullying, leftist agenda and indoctrination, academics, religious convictions, etc. These are all very good reasons but for the believer in Christ however, the first and most important consideration is whether or not it is God's will for your family. I encourage you to pray and seek God. Read His word and do your research. It is a huge responsibility, but also the BEST thing that could every happen to your family if you allow the Lord to lead you every step of the way. :hug

I will pray for you and your family. :pray

We have 17 days left of this school year

If you have only 17 days left, don't leave now. Finish out the year. It could make your record keeping, etc., very complicated if you left now. And it's less than 3 weeks. Take the summer to pray and figure out what your going to do. You'll need to investigate your state's laws, which curriculums to use, possible co-ops to join, and prepare the kids for this change.

Oh...perhaps I did not make myself clear. I am not considering leaving with only 17 days left...(I am just very happy to have only 17 days left:lol2)

We are pretty convicted in the fact that marital affairs are running like wild through the faculty........that is not a lesson I want my kids to take part in...and it shows that the administration isn't too concerned either....as of right now we receive alot of shoulder shrugs. Also...because my kids are Christian....they get ridiculed all day long. My oldest is in 6th grade...the girls torment him by taking the Lords name in vain...tellin him he has his period...or that he is gay.....or that he is a nerd(he is brought into advanced classes)...and it is constant. His last years teacher made the kids who got spelling words wrong massage her bare feet with lotion in front of the whole class:panic...I could go on and on. One teacher comes in and slaps another teacher in front of the kids for sleeping with her hubby.......:ohno

We are so ready to pull the kids....am already looking into curiculums.....and talking with other homeschoolers....

Pray

Good grief! This place sounds sick! So sick, it reminds me of the I, Claudius miniseries, replete with Roman men and women conniving and poisoning and catting around. I'm surprised no one filed a sexual harassment suit over the foot massages. Ew!

Have you checked HSLDA for a link to your state's laws? You should definitely know your rights before you talk to any officials. Then you need to pray about whether to just quietly go away and say you'll be homeschooling next year, or if you want to make an issue of all this stuff. Are there any other parents who feel the way you do, or are they all like those nasty rude girls?

Today...I went to the HSLDA website. Our state does not have alot of "rules" regarding homeschooling....and just last week they passed a law that states that even if you do not have a bachelor degree...you can teach your kids w/o teacher supervision. As long as you have a high school diploma or GED. Of course, we need to send a letter of intent...and keep records.....regualr stuff.

I am blessed to have two good friends that homeschool....and are willing to give pointers. Both homeschool in completely different ways....neat to observe both.

Our children want out of the public school too. For example....my 2nd grade boy has a reading level of a 7th grader...and loves to read Narnia and books like "Sign of the Beaver". When he goes to school...he is back reading 2nd grade level....and is bored out of his mind.

We are active in piano lessons.....Tae Kwon Do and various activities.

There are a few parents that feel the way we do.......some are going to another school system....others are also considering homeschooling. Our school board considers the few of us to be "religious nuts"......

Homeschooling will give YOU the choices to choose what your children are learning and reading. If you decide to go ahead with it, I would recommend prayerfully writing down your reasons for homeschooling (kind of like a mission statement). We did this 6 years ago when we started, and it helps on the tough days to go back and look at that. It will also help you as you look at curriculum. I think alot of us are considered "religious nuts" these days! :)
